Houston man kills wife at rehab facility, then himself: police

A Houston man visiting his wife after she suffered a stroke allegedly fatally shot her, then himself inside the rehab facility.

The elderly couple, who have not been publicly identified, were in her room at the NeuroRestorative clinic around 2 p.m. Sunday when employees heard “popping sounds,” according to Click2Houston.

The staff ignored the noise.

When they later went in to check on the couple, both 70, the woman was slumped over in her wheelchair, police said.

A staff member began CPR, then noticed the gunshot wound.

Her husband was found lying on the ground, also with a gunshot wound.

Both were declared dead at the scene.

Police are investigating the deaths as a murder-suicide and said no other injuries were reported.

“We are cooperating with a police investigation related to an incident at our facility today,” NeuroRestorative said in a statement to Click2Houston. “All other individuals and employees at the facility are safe, and we are currently reaching out to families and caregivers to update them on the well-being of their loved ones.”

The facility works with people with “brain, spinal cord and medically complex injuries, illnesses and other challenges,” according to its website.
