House of the Dragon director Clare Kilner has responded to a rather gross scene in the show's latest episode.

In 'The Green Council', Lord Larys Strong (Matthew Needham) gives some vital information to Queen Alicent (Olivia Cooke), and as a reward she reveals her feet, which he proceeds to masturbate to.

Opening up about the origin of the scene, Kilner—who helmed the episode—revealed that writer Sara Hess came up with the idea.

"Her mind is incredible," she said on Entertainment Weekly's West of Westeros podcast. "I mean, she really wrote us a wonderful episode, I have to say. But, yeah, that was an interesting scene actually.

"Funnily enough, you get the intimacy coordinators [for] all the nudity, but they don't think about it for this," she added. "It's so intrusive and invasive. It's a really dirty scene."

Following the episode, the trailer for the season one finale was released, which hints at a major development for Matt Smith's character, Prince Daemon Targaryen.

Elsewhere, House of the Dragon boss Ryan Condal has addressed the perceived rivalry between his show and Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

"I'm a huge unapologetic Tolkien fan," he told The Wrap. "I read Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion and The Hobbit multiple times growing up, I saw the Peter Jackson movies multiple times in the theaters. I love all that stuff, I love high fantasy, and frankly I want to live in a world where there's room for all of these things to exist if they're good.

"I think the need for more well-made expensive science-fiction/fantasy on television is what all of us nerds want."
