Who is hosting the 2024 NBA All-Star Game? Here's what's different about this season's game
The 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend is scheduled for Indianapolis. The event had been scheduled for Indy in 2021, but the COVID-19 pandemic prompted a change in location, and the city got the '24 game.
Starting lineups for the game are determined by a combination of fan (50%), media (25%) and player (25%) voting, and the rest of the rosters are determined by coaches. Twelve players from the Eastern and Western conferences will participate.
There will be plenty to do away from the court, as well, with fan experiences and concerts available throughout the weekend.
Here's what you should know about the 2024 NBA All-Star Weekend.
When is the NBA All-Star Game?
The game is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024.
There will also be a Rising Stars game for top rookies and up-and-coming second-year players on Friday, Feb. 16; and All-Star Saturday night, featuring skills, 3-point and dunk contests, on Saturday, Feb. 17.

The game will be played at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

East vs. West format returns to NBA All-Star Game
12 players from each conference will play, with the Eastern Conference All-Stars facing the Western Conference All-Stars. In the previous six years, team captains drafted players from the full pool of All-Stars.
Also, the game will be four 12-minute quarters, like a standard game. The league had used an "Elam ending" format, in which the end of the game was untimed but a team won when reaching a target score. That system, developed by a Ball State University professor, has an interesting theory about the NBA's move.
The teams will continue competing to win each quarter for a charitable cause they choose.
Indianapolis and the NBA All-Star game
Indianapolis hosted the 1985 NBA All-Star game at the Hoosier Dome. The West beat the East 140-129 behind MVP Ralph Sampson of the Houston Rockets, who scored 24 points and had 10 rebounds.

NBA Crossover
From Feb. 16-18, the Indiana Convention Center will host what the NBA calls an "interactive fan event that brings basketball culture to the forefront, featuring player appearances, live performances and unique activations focused on art, music, fashion, technology and entertainment."
