The Horry County Council will look virtually the same next year, as seven members who ran uncontested all won by massive margins.

Chairman Johnny Gardner, who was first elected in 2018, will continue in the role after making it through a primary and run-off that saw him knock off GOP challenger Mark Lazarus.

His current term expires on Dec. 31. Gardner is an attorney and former prosecutor in the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.

Jenna Dukes will replace Harold Worley in District 1

Dukes, a North Myrtle Beach pharmacist, defeated long-time councilman Harold Worley in June’s GOP primary, making her the first woman in 10 years to win a seat on the 11-person council.

Dukes, a West Virginia native, beat the council’s longest-serving member on a platform that focuses on a balanced approach to growth and building new infrastructure.

Dukes, 36, and a West Virginia native, ousted Horry County Council’s longest-serving member on Tuesday, Harold Worley. She’ll be the first woman on county council in more than a decade since former Chairwoman Liz Gilland left office.

Bill Howard is returning in District 2

Howard will start a third term on the council after fending off a June primary challenge by Dean Richardson. The seat covers most of Myrtle Beach and areas of Carolina Forest.

Howard, 71, has emphasized investments in public safety and infrastructure during his time on the council, pointing to 250 new public safety positions as one of his key accomplishments.

Tyler Servant is back in District 5

First elected to the council in 2014, the Republican is also its vice chairman. He lives in Surfside Beach and graduated from the University of South Carolina with degrees in real estate and marketing. Servant ran unopposed.

Tom Anderson will be a new face for District 7

Anderson spent more than 20 years on the Conway City Council, and coasted to an easy win on the county’s governing board after beating incumbent Oroton Bellamy and Jeanette Spurlock in June’s primary contest.

The seat represents Conway and the county’s Bucksport area.

Mikey Masicarelli moves over from the Planning Commission to District 8

A real estate agent from the Forestbrook area, Masciarelli is taking over seat previously held by Johnny Vaught, who opted out of another run for the seat in a bid to become the council’s next chairman.

Masciarelli defeated Brandon Skipper in a June 28 runoff to secure his spot on the council.

Al Allen will stay in place from District 11

Allen, first elected in 2007 from Horry County’s northern reaches, ran unopposed for another term.
