From the iconic South Carolina 90s rock band Hootie and the Blowfish, drummer Jim Sonefeld will make an appearance in Myrtle Beach for a book signing event in early December.

Sonefeld will be at the Market Common Barnes and Noble from 12-4 on Dec. 4, to sell signed copies of his new title, “Swimming with the Blowfish: Hootie, Healing and one Hell of a Ride.”

The free event will be an opportunity for a “good casual way to interact with Hootie fans and the people who are interested in a book from behind the scenes with the band and some of my personal life,” Sonefeld said. Sonefeld emphasized that this event was about “making conversation.”

“It’ll be a very nice, easy, low key atmosphere,” he said.

Sonefeld decided to write about his experiences with Hootie and the Blowfish in 2017, nearly a decade after starting his journey into sobriety. For Hootie and the Blowfish fans, the book offers not only an inside scoop into the roller coaster of the early 2000s, but “gives a lot of hope” to those struggling with addiction.

“There’s desperation. And there’s hope, and there’s ultimately victory, which I think is what people enjoy reading, too,” Sonefeld said.

The book also fills in some of the gaps of the 2000s, such as when the band went on hiatus in 2008, according to Sonefeld. But the most valuable part of the book is for those still struggling with addiction.

“People who are still struggling need to know there is some hope,” Sonefeld said.

“Swimming with the Blowfish: Hootie, Healing and one Hell of a Ride became available in June, around the same time Sonefeld released his latest EP, “Remember Tomorrow.”

Hootie and the Blowfish was formed in the 1990s, when Darius Rucker, Mark Bryan, Dean Felber and Jim Sonefeld attended the University of South Carolina together. Their first debut album, “Cracked Rear View” came out in 1994 and became one of the best selling music albums of all time, with over 25 million copies sold worldwide, according to its website.

After a hiatus in 2008, Hootie and the Blowfish announced a full time return to touring in 2019, with their “Group Therapy Tour.” The bands latest music includes a 2020 album titled “Imperfect Circle.”

Sonefeld’s next book signing event is on Dec. 10, at the Richland Mall in Columbia, SC. To buy “Swimming with the Blowfish: Hootie, Healing and one hell of a ride,” click here.
