A 59-year-old man has been arrested for firearms offences by police who had to evacuate multiple homes and call a bomb disposal team to a house in Bristol.

Avon and Somerset Police say they arrested a man on suspicion of possession of a firearm without certificate on Thursday 23 May.

They carried out searches at an address on Blaise Walk in the Sea Mills area, which concluded on Saturday.

However, during searches on Friday night, a suspected piece of ordnance was located, so police evacuated homes and the bomb team was called, which later declared the area was safe.

Avon and Somerset Police said the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team "confirmed there was no live ordnance and the cordon was lifted".

The arrested man has been released on police bail.
