This home for sale has a secret – and it involves ‘Amityville Horror.’ Take a look

When it was released in 1979, the horror film “The Amityville Horror” terrified folks thanks to the movie being based on the true story a family who experienced paranormal phenomena in a house where a man murdered members of his family.

While the premise of the movie was based in Long Island, New York, the iconic house that was used in the filming is actually in Toms River, New Jersey.

And now it’s on the real estate market for $1.699 million, just in time for Halloween.

“Proud to present this local landmark — the ‘Amityville Horror’ house,” the listing on Childers Sotheby’s International Realty says. “This iconic home is ideally situated on the most desirable street in Toms River and was used to film ‘The Amityville Horror’ movie in 1979.”

The stunning, four-bedroom, five-bathroom home — which was built in 1920 — is almost unrecognizable after multiple renovations.

Per the listing, features include:

  • Custom kitchen

  • “Resort-like backyard”

  • Swimming pool

  • Basement with wet bar

  • Theater

  • Rec area

  • Laundry room

The listing is held by Jeffrey M Childers.

Toms River is about 55 miles east of Philadelphia.
