A Fort Gratiot Fire Department vehicle temporarily blocks an entrance to the Home Depot parking lot on Monday, May 6, 2024, while on standby to a law enforcement situation.

The entrances to the parking lot of Home Depot in Fort Gratiot were blocked by emergency vehicles late this afternoon while authorities from several agencies responded to a "law enforcement situation" on site.

"We've been asked to stand by and actually provide traffic control, as well," Fort Gratiot Fire Chief Michael Fronimos said shortly before 5:30 p.m. At the time, he said they'd been on scene a little more than an hour,

Inside, Fronimos said officials from the St. Clair County Sheriff's Department, Port Huron Police Department, and Michigan State Police were performing a walk-through of the Home Depot building, 4195 24th Ave.

The sheriff department said in a release shortly before 7 p.m. a bomb threat had been reported at the store about 3:30 p.m.

"When the threat was found written on the wall in a bathroom stall, law enforcement was notified. Upon learning of the situation, deputies responded, calling for area bomb K9’s to respond, as well as Fort Gratiot Fire Department to stage in the area. MSP K9 and a Port Huron Police Department K9 responded to the store. They worked meticulously clearing the building. No bomb, and nothing of concern was located. The store has resumed normal business," the press release stated.

Anyone who comes across a note, threat, or something believed to be of concern, is asked to call 911.
