Hollyoaks' Stephanie Waring responds to online trolling after exit news

Hollyoaks actor Stephanie Waring has called out an online troll for suggesting she was "destined for OnlyFans" after being let go by the soap.

Last month it was announced that her character Cindy Cunningham had been axed by bosses after 28 years on screen.

In the time since, Waring's heightened social media activity clearly caught the eye of one particular Instagram user, who also claimed she was "desperate" to join the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing.

"I got up this morning, did my usual routine and I thought you know what, I'm just gonna have a sit and have a little scroll like you normally do because it's become a habit in our everyday lives to have a little scroll on Instagram before we actually get on with our days," she told the camera from her home yesterday (May 23).

"I noticed a comment on one of my recent posts. Usually I get quite positive feedback from my followers and of course it always makes me feel good, but it's always the negative one init - that negative one seems to get in there somewhere and you ruminate on it.

"It's hard because I'm really working on myself to try and not take things personally, it's a huge thing in my life trying to build my own confidence up," continued the soap star, who then revealed how she wanted to respond to this troll, "almost like a defence of myself".

On the Strictly and OnlyFans reference, Waring added: "A little part of my brain went there and went, 'That's not true! I really need to let him know that this is not true, this is not why I've been doing these videos'.

"The actual truth is I'm just having a bit of fun [...] I've just thought f**k it, it's my social media. If people wanna follow me and relate to me and actually like my content, then brilliant. If you don't then unfollow, that's none of my business."

She added that she's simply trying to "live as authentically as I possibly can".

Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4 each weekday at 7.30pm. Episodes then air on E4 the following day, before getting their YouTube premiere a week after that.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
