Hollyoaks star Niamh Blackshaw unveils hair transformation

Former Hollyoaks star Niamh Blackshaw has debuted a new look.

The Juliet Nightingale actress shared her new hairstyle on Instagram, alongside a tongue-in-cheek response to a social media user who'd insulted her.

Niamh revealed her new fringe, alongside the cheeky caption: "Can’t call me megamind now."

Several of Niamh's former Hollyoaks co-stars were full of excitement for her hair transformation, with Jennifer Metcalfe (who plays Mercedes McQueen) writing: "Beautiful."

"Ooooooft. So beautiful Niamh," Anna Passey (who plays Sienna Blake) added.

Jessica Fox, who is well known for her fringe while playing Nancy Osborne, also loved Niamh's new look: "I’m here for this hair choice. You look fabulous!"

Niamh wrapped up her five-year stint in Chester as part of a powerful issue-based storyline that saw her character Juliet diagnosed with lymphoma.

When her final scenes aired last summer, the actress explained to Digital Spy that she had "complicated" feelings about Juliet being killed off.

"I was open to options about my exit, and this felt like a finite, powerful story which made me excited," she told us.

"I love the character deeply, and I'm upset for her – we all have grieved a fictional character at some point. But I'm happy to have seen her through to the end. It's been difficult, but I'm very proud of the work. I feel like it's the best work I have done on the show."

Her final storyline earned the actress a British Soap Award longlist nomination for Best Leading Performer last year and the impact of her exit can still be felt in the soap.

In the months since Juliet's death, her half-brother Romeo Nightingale has fallen in love with Juliet's former girlfriend Peri Lomax.

Hollyoaks will be losing another member of the Nightingale family soon, as Owen Warner will be leaving the soap after Romeo confessed to accidentally killing his abusive ex-girlfriend Rayne Royce.

Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4 each weekday at 7.30pm. Episodes then air on E4 the following day, before getting their YouTube premiere a week after that.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
