Hollyoaks’ James Nightingale makes life-changing decision after Ste and Lucas reunion

Hollyoaks spoilers follow for the latest episode to air on E4, which is available on Channel 4 streaming as 'Hollyoaks at Christmas: Episode 2'.

Hollyoaks' James Nightingale has made a life-changing deciding after the dramatic events of the latest episode.

The family woke up to discover that Lucas Hay had been out all night after running away following the revelation that James hit the youngster.

Lucas' friend Dillon Ray revealed to Misbah Maalik that he was staying in the spare room, and asked that she didn't send him back home just yet.

When Lucas came to the kitchen, Misbah said it would be best to go home to his dad, and assured him that "If Ste had any sense, James won't be there" and offered to walk him home.

James did end up being there, which led to Misbah calling him out for being violent towards the minor. Rather than getting angry, James admitted that he had been a bully to Lucas, and was disgusted how much like his own father he was turning into.

Ste returned to the house shortly after and they shared a tearful embrace, with Ste apologising for not realising what was going on.

"We're moving in with Leela. I am getting my kids out of harm's way," Ste told Misbah, when James entered the room and his husband that there was no need.

"This is Lucas' home," he said. "If anyone should leave, it's me."

"I'm sorry for making you feel unsafe."

On their own, Ste told Lucas that if he had known about the shed incident he would have ended things with James instantly and for good.

"I can't half pick 'em. I doubt you remember Brendan, he had a dark side too," Ste said, before stating that it was a relief Lucas wasn't gay as well so he wouldn't get messed around by men (with the camera's hold on Lucas' face suggesting otherwise).

Is this really the end for Ste and James as a couple, or will there be more twists and turns in the storyline to come?

Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4 each weekday at 7.30pm. Episodes then air on E4 the following day, before getting their YouTube premiere a week after that.
