Hollyoaks confirms when Holby City star debuts

Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks has confirmed Holby City star David Ames's first scenes will air next week.

Ames has been cast in the Channel 4 soap as new Hollyoaks High headteacher Carter Shepherd, who also happens to be the father of student Freya Calder.

Carter takes the job so he can move to Chester and be closer to his daughter following the tragic death of her mother Lexi Calder at the hands of serial killer Silas Blissett last year.

In scenes set to air on Thursday, August 17 and Friday, August 18 on Channel 4 (and on Wednesday, August 16 and 17 on E4), Carter makes his first impression as he makes friends with the McQueens.

Goldie McQueen confides in mate Scott Drinkwell that she's struggling to grieve Bronzer the dog. She visits the pup's memorial and is surprised by Carter appearing when she asks for a sign to move on.

Carter is invited over to the McQueens' to attend a family BBQ where it's obvious that Goldie may be having some romantic feelings for her new friend.

As he befriends the McQueens, Carter is also set to become part of a year-long storyline for John Paul McQueen where he struggles in the aftermath of being attacked.

While John Paul insists he's ready to move on with his life and attend a gay night at The Loft, Sally St Claire questions whether he's stuffing down his true feelings.

John Paul drops the front, admitting to Scott that he's been trying to put on a brave face and doesn't actually feel comfortable attending the club night.

Scott is warm and supportive as ever for his friend, encouraging him to go someplace where he would feel comfortable instead.

John Paul eventually decides to join the rest of the McQueens at their BBQ, where he opens up to Goldie's new friend Carter about what he's going through.

He's eventually surprised to learn that Carter is actually Freya's father. Longtime viewers will remember that John Paul bared some responsibility for the van crash that severely injured Freya last year.

Will Carter be able to forgive John Paul?
