Hollyoaks casts Jesse Fox as major character in Rayne storyline

Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks has made a new casting announcement, with Midsomer Murders star Jesse Fox joining the Channel 4 soap as Brent.

The character was long thought to be deceased, with ex-girlfriend Rayne Royce telling everybody in the village that he had died by suicide earlier this year.

Peri learned last week that this had all been a lie, with Carol confirming that her son was very much alive, with Fox making his first appearance in tonight’s (September 11) first-look episode.

“I was very excited when I got the part,” said Fox of his casting. “It was so cool to be a part of such a big storyline that the show has been building up to for a while. Brent adores Rayne and has very much not given up on them being together.

“The nature of their relationship has taken him to a place where he’s totally lost perspective and his sense of self, which in turn makes him quite dangerous. He’d pretty much do anything to try to make Rayne happy

“I think people may understandably be hostile towards him because – being in that Rayne whirlpool – he makes some seriously big mistakes. You can expect clashes and fireworks with the likes of Peri and Romeo.

“But actually, I think he and Romeo have a lot in common, and I hope people will also gradually see why he’s making these mistakes and find moments of empathy with Brent as a character. Trying to capture that balance has been one of the really fun challenges of playing him,” he added.

Tonight’s scenes saw Peri left reeling from the development, with her confusion stemming from the fact all parties had agreed to maintain the ruse.

During a conversation with Brent, she learned that elements of the story were indeed true but had been manipulated by Rayne to boost her social media brand.

As the exchange continued, Peri realised that Brent was unaware of Rayne’s true character, and attempted to bring him to the village so Romeo could see the light.

With Peri seemingly upbeat about the proceedings, things took a turn for the worse as Brent informed Rayne of her intentions, with the newcomer subsequently hitting Peri from behind as he followed his ex-girlfriend's instructions...

From Monday, September 25, Hollyoaks will stream first online via Channel 4 each weekday. Episodes then air on E4 the following day, before getting their YouTube premiere a week after that.
