Hollyoaks' Anya Lawrence has responded to Brookside star Louis Emerick's casting in the show.

Emerick, who played fan favourite Mick Johnson in the Liverpool-based soap, has landed the role of Donny Clark, the father of Lawrence's character Vicky Grant and half-brother Andre (David Joshua-Anthony).

The newcomer will make his first appearance on the soap next week as he unexpectedly arrives at Vicky's 18th birthday party.

Speaking to Inside Soap, Lawrence shared her excitement at Emerick playing her on-screen dad: "Louis is amazing. He's been in the industry for a very long time and I'm so grateful to be learning from him.

"Hollyoaks is made in the same studio Brookside was, so he knows a lot of the crew from the old days, and of course Alex [Fletcher, who plays Diane Hutchinson and was Jacqui Dixon on Brookside]. Even though it's a new job, it's lovely for him to feel as if he's come home!"

Billed as "charisma personified", Donny is confident, charming and has a kind heart. The character is said to do anything for his kids and is determined to build a relationship with Vicky upon his arrival in the village.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, Emerick said: "Donny is coming back to see his son and it collides with his daughter's birthday, which is very emotional as it's the first time he has met her."

The actor went on to share how moved he felt after joining the cast, saying: "It has equally been moving for me personally. I was there when Hollyoaks began. We sat with the Brookside and Hollyoaks crew and watched a screening of the first ever episode in 1995.

"It is so exciting to be back with this vibrant cast and crew, back on the set where it all began."

Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4 each weekday at 7.30pm. Episodes then air on E4 the following day, before getting their YouTube premiere a week after that.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
