Hollyoaks actor Jamie Lomas announces engagement to girlfriend

Hollyoaks actor Jamie Lomas has announced his engagement to his girlfriend, dentist Jess Bell.

The star, who plays Warren Fox in the Channel 4 soap, told OK! that he popped the question while on holiday in Mexico.

"I had been planning it for a while and I wanted it to be perfect," he explained.

"We'd been in Lake Como a few weeks earlier but we both adore Mexico and I thought, 'Where better than in our favourite restaurant in our favourite resort in our favourite country?'"

Once at the restaurant, Lomax told Bell that he was going to be cheeky and pretend it was his birthday so the restaurant staff would make a fuss and bring out some champagne, which was of course a ruse.

"It was the perfect distraction because that’s just what happened and it meant Jess didn't have a clue what was going on," he said.

"Of course, all the restaurant staff were in on the surprise. So they emerged with a cake, singing and clapping with Jess sitting there thinking it was all going well and all about me and my supposed birthday. And then they changed the music that was playing to 'Marry You' by Bruno Mars."

Bell admitted to having no idea what was going on at first, but once she realised, she was overcome with emotion and started crying.

Speaking about the platinum, one-carat engagement ring adorned with diamond sparkler, Lomas said he was glad Bell had mentioned what kind of ring she wanted, and he had a jeweller friend. "Otherwise I might have just nipped and bought something from Argos," he added.

When it comes to the wedding itself, neither of them want to do the traditional thing.

Bell mentioned wanting a Vegas wedding with an Elvis impersonator, while Lomas is keen on the idea of a pool party holiday.

"We'd love our friends to come and join us out there but there's no pressure at all," the actor added. "We'll probably have a party back here in the UK anyway."
