'Hocus Pocus' Fans, You're Not Ready for This Movie News

Since its release 30 years ago, Hocus Pocus has cast a spell on its loyal fans and anyone looking to get into the spooky spirit. It's become a Halloween cult classic and one of the best witch movies of all time, keeping its viewers enthralled with the Sanderson sisters— Winifred, Sarah and Mary— who find themselves accidentally resurrected by a group of teenagers on Halloween three centuries after their deaths.

But there's a reason why these witches were executed for their witchcraft centuries ago in Salem, Massachusetts, where Hocus Pocus was filmed. Once the sisters come back to life, they aren't afraid to take a life in order to restore their own youth, and it's up to the teenagers to stop them from wreaking havoc on Salem.

Just when fans couldn't get enough of the sisters, in 2022, Disney premiered Hocus Pocus 2 exclusively on Disney+ with a 21st century twist. Funny enough, you'll find Sarah flying on a Swiffer instead of a broomstick and Mary flying with two Roombas instead of an old vacuum. The sequel also featured many original Hocus Pocus cast members, including Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy who each play a Sanderson sister.

A year later, Hocus Pocus 2 has still left fans craving for more of the Sanderson sisters in a third movie. After waiting almost 30 years for a sequel, you might be wondering if you'll have to wait nearly as long for a threequel or if one is even coming out.

Will there be a Hocus Pocus 3?

The witches will be back! In an interview with the New York Times in June, Walt Disney Pictures President Sean Bailey confirmed that there will be a Hocus Pocus 3, "Yes, Hocus Pocus 3 is happening." The decision seems like a no-brainer considering Hocus Pocus 2 broke the record for the biggest film premiere on Disney+.

Disney has yet to announce a premiere date for the film or its cast list. In June, Najimy jokingly told PEOPLE, "I think if we did it 30 years later again, well, there would be walkers and canes involved. The flying might just be a little one-foot blip off the ground."

When it came to being in the third movie, Najimy told Entertainment Weekly just before the release of the sequel, "I feel like we're done. We've pulled every story you could pull out of this. I guess, never say never, but I feel grateful that we got to do it again."

Parker said she'd be happy to have a conversation about the third movie. For Midler, she loved playing her role again 30 years later in the sequel and said to EW, "If there was a third one, of course I'd sign on, but I don't know how. I can't imagine what the story would be, but I love Winifred, Sarah, Mary, and our relationship. It's good for women."

So I guess we'll just have to stay tuned for another glorious update.
