History Spotlight: 1913 Fremont flood recovery

Jackson Company, 1913

The large A.H. Jackson Manufacturing Company is seen in this Finch photo on South Front Street drying out after the 1913 flood. Notice the huge pile of boots and shoes in front of the Bargain Shop offered at "Cut Rate." The main part of the Jackson factory, which later became Montgomery Ward, was torn down in 1977 for parking. The Brady Building beyond the furniture sign still remains, now with a mural on the side. The last building was the old Hafford Carriage Works that stood on the northeast corner of Birchard Avenue.
