Hillsdale track and field athletes earn top 10 finishes at MITCA D3 Team State Championship

CLARE — Hillsdale track and field teams qualified for the MITCA D3 team state championships and competed this weekend against some of the best teams in the state. The Hornet boys track team took ninth and the girls team took 10th.

Several Hillsdale athletes had top 10 finishes in their events against the best Division 3 teams in the state.

For the girls team, junior Megan Kast ran down eighth place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.45. Senior Annemarie Moore took fourth in the 200 dash with a time of 27.46.

Junior Chloe Stalhood took eighth in the 800 with a time of 2:39.78 and took fifth in the 1,600 with a time of 5:43.22.

In the 100 hurdles, junior Meredith Bowles took 10th with a time of 17.94. In the 300 hurdles, junior Natalia Galindo Gabande took ninth overall with a time of 51.75. Bowles took 13th.

The 4x100 team of Jayce Graham, Annemarie Moore, Amelia Dietz and Megan Kast took third with a time of 52.38.

The 4x200 and 4x800 teams each took 10th overall.

Freshman Kiely Kroa took ninth in the high jump event with a jump height of 4-feet, 10 inches. Galindo Gabande took fifth in the long jump with a distance of 14-feet, 11 inches.

In discus, senior Emma Collison took 12th with a throw of 84-feet. Kroa took 14th in the girls 400 with a time of 1:06.26, a new PR. Cailey VanZant took 16th in the 800 with a time of 2:46.99.

For Hillsdale's boys track team, junior Dominick Coke took ninth in the 400 with a time of 53.07. Teammate Miles Brown took 10th with a time of 53.09.

Senior Nolan Grant took fourth in the 1,600 with a time of 4:39.46. Teammate Logan Youngman took eighth with a time of 4:46.49.

Senior Brice Van Zant took 10th in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.87. Van Zant took 20th in the 300 hurdles. Teammate Ashton Thornsbury took 14th in the 110 hurdles with a new PR time of 16.36. Teammate Kaden Sorrel also had a new PR time, 16.88, to take 19th.

In the 4x100 relay, the team of Stephen Petersen, Brayden Taylor, Cam Arnold and Dawson Adams took fourth with a time of 44.57.

The 4x200 team took 14th and the 4x400 team took 13th.

The 4x800 team of Miles Brown, Logan Youngman, Kelton Phillip and Nolan Grant took fifth with a time of 8:36.34.

Junior John Petersen took 10th in shot put with a throw of 42-feet, 1 1/2 inches. In discus, he took 14th with a throw of 110-feet, 9 inches. Ashton Thornsbury took sixth in high jump with a height of 5-feet, 11 inches. Teammates Robert Garcia and Brookes Beckman took 10th with a 5-7 measurement.

Taking 18th in long jump of sophomore Jonahtan Tomasello with a new PR distance of 18-feet, 4 3/4 inches. Senior Declan Flannery took 13th in the pole vault event.

In the 100-meter dash, senior Dawson Adams led the team with a 12th place finish and a time of 11.70. Senior Stephen Petersen took 19th with a time of 11.77.

The Hillsdale Hornets had several athletes rest up for the MHSAA LP state finals, which takes place Saturday, June 1 in Kent City.
