Hillsdale junior's PR in 3,200 highlights latest Hillsdale Area Best girls track rankings

HILLSDALE COUNTY — It was a top-three shuffle for many of the changes that appear in the second edition of Hillsdale Area Best girls track and field rankings.

While the 100, 200 and 400 maintained the same No. 1 ranked athlete, the top two runners in the 800 swapped places. Pittsford senior Brooke Smith takes over the 800-meter top spot from Hillsdale Academy junior Caroline Roberts. Smith also holds onto No. 1 in the 1,600 and third place in the 3,200.

Hillsdale junior Chloe Stalhood still retains No. 1 in the 3,200 and set a new career best time at the Clare Invitational. The junior Hornet has more than 30 seconds on the rest of the top three in that event.

Hillsdale Academy freshman Zoey Plemmons took over the No. 1 100-meter hurdle ranking from teammate Lucy Cote. Cote still retains a No. 1 ranking in the 300 hurdles.

While Hillsdale still holds on to the 4x100 relay No. 1 spot, Hillsdale Academy's team of Julia Casper, Zoe Plemmons, Lucy Cote and Iris Millies took over the No. 1 spot with a time of 1:52.30. The Academy also holds the No. 1 rankings in the 4x400 and 4x800 relays.

Over in throwing events, Hillsdale Academy senior Evie Gray retained No. 1 in discus but added a new PR throw of 103 feet, 6 1/2 inches. Reading junior Abbigail Affholter retained No. 1 in shot put but came close to breaking her PR throw at the Union City Invitational.

The entire top three for high jump got reshuffled, with Jonesville sophomore Payton Nichelson taking No. 1, up one spot. Pole Vault and Long jump's No. 1 ranking remained unchanged.

These rankings were updated as of May 1. The rankings include the top five athletes per event and relay. Only one relay team per school (the program's best time) is featured in the top five. The Area Best Rankings will lead up into the Hillsdale Area Best Meet held in Hayden Park, hosted by Hillsdale Academy and Hillsdale College.
