Hillsdale boys and girls basketball sweep Pat Paterson Rotary Pool B Finals

HILLSDALE — It came down to the Hillsdale Hornets and the Waldron Spartans for the Pat Paterson Rotary tournament Pool B finals after their dominating semifinal wins from Thursday night.

How did each team get to the finals? For the Hornets, the girls basketball team defeated Camden-Frontier 49-13. The boys team defeated Camden-Frontier 79-12.

The Waldron boys basketball team defeated Will Carleton Academy 56-36 and then the girls team defeated Will Carleton Academy 52-24.

All four teams met on Friday to battle at Hillsdale College for the Pool B title. The winner would advance to the Pat Paterson Pool A tournament the following season.

The Hornet girls basketball team took down the Waldron Spartans 49-27 for the Pool B championship, their first since 2021.

Leading the way for the Hornets was Pool B MVP Karsyn Stebbins. Stebbins had 12 total points, including a 3-pointer in the first and second half. Sydney Hartzler scored 11 points, hitting two 3-pointers. Rylee Miller had seven points and one triple. Ava Ruley and Amelia Dietz both had six points.

With the Pool B finals win, the Hornet girls basketball team has won three games in a row heading into the New Year. The team stands at 3-4 overall. The Hornets are back in action against Blissfield in a home matchup on Jan. 9.

This was Waldron girls basketball's first loss of the season. The team stands at 5-0 after the tournament. They are back in action at home against Camden-Frontier in a league game on Jan. 9.

The Hornet boys basketball team defeated the Waldron Spartans 47-25. This was Hillsdale's first Pool A or B finals win since 2017.

Leading the way for Hillsdale was Jack Bowles. The senior playmaker had 22 points, including two triples, eight rebounds, and three assists. Brody Adams had 10 points, including two triples. Casper Overbye had eight points, including two triples, and three steals. Jace Lennox had five points, including one triple.

Leading the way for Waldron was Landon Monahan with nine points. Seth Williams had eight points. Jacobi Gonzalez had four points.

With the two victories, Hillsdale is now 7-2 overall on the season. The Hornets will look to keep their momentum going heading into league play. They start their January slate with a game on the 9th at Blissfield. They also play Adrian Madison on the road on Jan. 11.

After three straight wins, the Waldron Spartans fall to 5-4 overall. The Spartans get back to game action on Jan. 8 with a road trip to Gorham-Fayette of Ohio. They also play Camden-Frontier on the road and host North Adams-Jerome for a packed week of game action.
