Hillsdale Area Best Boys Track Rankings 2024: Find out who leads the way to start the year

HILLSDALE COUNTY — Despite the tumultuous weather to start the spring, track and field teams have managed to make their way out to events and put in some early numbers for us to track. This is our first look at the Hillsdale Area Best rankings for boys track and field teams as they stand heading into the third weekend in April.

Each ranking will consist of the top five athletes in each event. For relay teams, one result per school will be included in the rankings. Only three relay teams will be listed per event, with the last names of athletes involved being listed.

The first edition of the rankings was dominated by Hillsdale track and field athletes and relay runners, taking eight No. 1 spots. Jonesville took the No. 1 spot in pole vault, the 4x800 and 800-meter race. Hillsdale senior Hunter Wilson was the No. 1 ranked athlete for the 100 and 200 dashes and is on two No. 1 relay teams.

Distance expert and D4 team cross country state champion Thomas Holm of Hillsdale Academy was the No. 1 3200-meter runner. Fellow senior Colt Dominic Scharer was the No. 1 ranked shot put and discus thrower, chasing down a school record this season. Senior Tayshawn Bester of Reading looks to dominate the 110 and 300-meter hurdles rankings this season.

However, the battle for the 300-meter hurdles, and many other events, looks to be close to start the year. The conclusion to the Hillsdale Area Best rankings will culminate with the Are Best meet on Tuesday, May 28. The event will be held at the new track and field facility built at Hillsdale College's Hayden Park.
