High schools: Bullard, Fresno Christian champions; track and field double winners

The Bullard High boys golf team is the Central Section champion.

Led by Aaron Parayno, the Knights won the championship at the San Joaquin Country Club on Monday.

The Knights had a score of 371, finishing two strokes ahead of Buchanan.

Parayno was crowned the individual champion when he finished with a 4-under 67. Zach Tarter of Sierra Pacific shot 3-under 68 to finish second.

Bullard and Buchanan automatically qualified for the regionals that will be held May 24 at Los Serranos Country Club in Chino Hills.

Fresno Christian claims tennis title; individual champions

After a four-year drought, the Fresno Christian boys tennis team is a Central Section champion again.

The top-seeded Eagles defeated No. 3 Reedley 5-2 in Division IV to secure the school’s sixth section title.

Winning matches for Fresno Christian were Jett Bek, Jacob Pimental, Caleb Mynderup, Tyler Maxey and Bek/Dhillion in doubles.

Other section winners: San Luis Obispo(D-I), Bakersfield Christian (D-II), Mission Prep (D-III) and Chowchilla (D-V). The Tribe defeated Orosi 5-4.

In the individual section championships on Saturday, Ryan Bashirtash of Bakersfield won singles, defeating top-seed Ryan King of Clovis East, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 at the Immanuel Sports Complex.

Ian Cabrinha and John Raj of San Luis Obispo were the doubles winners.

Track and field double winners

Nicholas Miller of Clovis North was a double winner at the Central Section Division I track and field championships at Clovis East.

He won the 100 and 200 races.

Noah Ray of Buchanan was a double champion, taking the 800 and 1,600.

Also a double champ from Buchanan was Derek Smith in the shot put and discus.

On the girls side, Grace Hutchison of Buchanan won the 1,600 and 3,200. Buchanan’s Jordan Leveque won the 100 and pole vault.

Division II: Ethan Avalos (Lemoore, 200, 400); Kyle Hughes (Bullard, long jump, 110 hurdles); Shaniya Randolph (Bullard, 100, 200).

Division III: Jaiden Haire (Hanford West, 100, 200); Amiera Hollis (Hanford West, 100, 200); Kylie Roberts (Washington Union, long jump, triple jump).

Division IV: Lexi Schartmann (Immanuel, 200, 400); Nailea Fields (Caruthers, shot put, discus); Sadie Carpenter (Immanuel, long jump, triple jump).

The section meet will be held at Buchanan’s Veterans Memorial Stadium o Saturday, same site as the state meet May 26-27.

The secton field events begin at 4 p.m. and the running events start at 5 p.m. Tickets are $10 per adult, $7 for high school students with ID and $7 for seniors.
