High school softball: Vote for the Varsity 845 player of the week (April 15-21)

Online voting for the Varsity 845 softball player of the week for April 15-21 is now open. Go to RecordOnline.com/sports and vote as often as you like until 11 p.m. on Saturday (no computer bot voting, please).

Nominations are pulled from reports to Varsity 845 and other sources. Players from Orange, Ulster and Sullivan counties, plus Delaware Valley (Pa.) are eligible. Only one nomination per school is permitted each week. This week the poll is split into large- and small schools.

2024 SEASON: Section 9 softball scores, schedule for the 2024 season

The winner will be announced via X / Twitter @Varsity845. Previous winners can become eligible again once the postseason has begun. The early winners have been Leah Gunsett of Marlboro, Angie Wheeler of Liberty and Brooke Shaeffer of Goshen.

Emilia Brundage, Valley Central

She had a single, double and three-run home run as the Vikings beat Beacon 13-1 on Wednesday.

Alex Cushing, Monticello

She had three hits in a 9-3 loss to Eldred on Friday.

Alina Ferguson, Newburgh

She had a complete-game win over Kingston, 3-1, on Friday. On Sunday, she fanned three in a complete-game 14-6 win over Middletown.

Addison Freiberger, Goshen

She tossed a three-hitter, fanning five, and added a hit and run for the Gladiators in a 2-1 win over Warwick on Friday,

Eva Garofalo, Warwick

She belted two home runs and drove in four runs as the Wildcats beat Kingston 8-1 on Wednesday.

Avery Ogden, Pine Bush

She posted a two-hit shutout, striking out seven, in a 1-0 win over Kingston on Monday.

Valerie Pedersen, Monroe-Woodbury

She struck out 12 batters and allowed one hit in a 10-1 win over Newburgh on Monday. She won a five-hitter on Wednesday, 2-1 over Goshen in eight innings.

Emily Smith, Minisink Valley

She tossed a three-hitter, striking out 11, as the Warriors beat Port Jervis 11-1 on Wednesday. The next day she struck out six in a six-hit win over Cornwall, 8-1.

Keira Stroud, Middletown

She had a single, triple and four RBI for Middletown in an 18-0 win over Monticello on Wednesday. She had a single and RBI in a 5-1 win over Monroe-Woodbury on Friday.

Victoria Bonitz, Ellenville

She had two hits and two RBI in the Blue Devils’ 18-10 setback to Spackenkill on Monday. O Thursday, she had a run and dropped a six-hitter, 7-1, to Highland.

Ayla Chaluisan, Chester/Seward

She struck out nine batters in a two-hit win, batting 5-for-7 with sven RBI in a 25-0 win over Liberty on Monday. On Tuesday she added a single, double, three RBI and a save in a 14-10 win over Tri-Valley.

Zaylee Cox, Livingston Manor

She had two singles and a home run as Manor fell to Liberty 24-2 on Thursday.

Alexa Pavese, Highland

She fanned 10 in a five-hitter, adding a hit and two runs as the Huskies beat Ellenville 7-1 on Thursday.

Chloe Warming, Eldred

She struck out eight in a six-hit shutout win as the Yellowjackets beat Chapel Field 6-0 on Monday. She also had a win in a 9-3 decision over Monticello on Friday.
