High school soccer: Austin area district title, playoff races going down to the wire

It's the last week of the regular season for some teams as district titles and playoff spots are on the line. Here is the American-Statesman's weekend high school soccer report for the Austin area:

Boys

Round Rock 3, McNeil 1: The Dragons continued their torrid stretch in the second half of District 25-6A play with their fifth straight win. Diego De La Mano had a goal and assist and Kai Haruki produced two assists to pace Round Rock, with Brody Box and Nuhan Mahmud also scoring.

Vista Ridge 4, Manor 2: J. Mossholder’s hat trick, Cyrus Keah’s goal and assist and Yaseen Salman’s two assists led the Rangers, who closed in on securing a playoff spot out of District 25-6A.

Stony Point 2, Westwood 0: Emmanuel Diaz’s brace paced the Tigers in a crucial win for their playoff hopes. Alexis Salgado and Micah Marquez provided the assists.

Connally 3, Pflugerville 2: The Cougars rallied from a 2-0 deficit to secure the District 23-5A title. Orlando Frias had a goal and two assists and both Shehram Hayatullah and Alex Rodriguez Diaz scored for Connally. Joel Vergara and Roberto Jaramillo produced the Panthers’ goals, with Emmanuel Castelan and Luis Martinez providing the assists.

Georgetown 7, Cedar Creek 0: Benni Ponce and Martin Valdes each scored twice and Joshua Lu, Micah Vogler and Kash Anderson all had goals as the Eagles secured a playoff spot out of District 23-5A. JJ Carrillo Jr. produced two assists and Valdes, Ponce and Vogler also recorded assists. Kevin Hernandez had the clean sheet in goal.

East View 5, Hendrickson 3: Julian Bariga’s brace and Joaquin Lumbreras’ goal and three assists led the Patriots as they clinched a playoff spot out of District 24-5A. Javier Torres and Serjio Maldonado also scored for East View.

McCallum 2, Navarro 0: Dash Levy and Speight Twohey scored for the Knights, with Summit Flowers recording the clean sheet. Ohad Klein had an assist for McCallum, which has secured a playoff spot out of District 24-5A.

LASA 3, Northeast 1: The Raptors closed in on the District 24-5A title behind Graham Gilbert’s goal and assist and scores from Sebastian Perez and Yohannes Heineman. Owen Rooff and Kiran Kini also had assists. Augustine Bitomwa had the Raiders’ goal.

Bowie 5, Akins 0: Griffin Crawley recorded an astounding four goals, Jake Ciccarello produced two assists and Ben Tillisch scored for the Bulldogs, who remain undefeated. Blaze Hatchett had the clean sheet.

Westlake 2, Austin High 1: Nicolas Mieres and Ethan Fuss scored for the Chaps, who won their seventh in a row. Ryan Bliss added an assist for Westlake.

Lake Travis 2, Dripping Springs 1: The Cavs continued a late-season charge into the playoff race out of District 26-6A thanks to goals by Ryan Dilworth and Christian Crespell. Owen Pryor and Ayden Sadat produced the assists.

Del Valle 3, Anderson 2: Octavio Estrada, Alejandro Ruiz and Daniel Cerda all scored for the Cardinals in a crucial win for their playoff hopes. Jesse Lang and Sebastian Garavito found the net for the Trojans.

Glenn 3, Cedar Park 0: Tito Don Juan’s hat trick, John Gomez’s two assists and Keller Marchant’s shutout kept the Grizzlies undefeated.

Hays 2, Rouse 1: Owen Nichols scored for the Raiders in the loss.

Girls

Eastside 2, Northeast 1: Nicole Reyes Rodriguez's two goals off assists from Zyra Zavala and Karen Gomez Sanchez paced the Panthers to a crucial win for their playoff hopes. Eastside improved to 7-6-1 in the District 24-5A standings and is ahead of Crockett for the fourth playoff spot on points 22-19.

Round Rock 5, McNeil 0: Zoe Dick scored twice while Grace El Deir, Montse Hernandez and Lexi Duarte each added a solo goal as District 25-6A leader Round Rock blanked the Mavericks.

Cedar Ridge 1, Vandegrift 0: Huge win for playoff implications as Fallon Zeller notched the only goal of the match off an assist by Lorena Jaimes as the Raiders moved into a tie for fourth and earned the tiebreaker advantage in the process.

Westwood 4, Stony Point 1: Westwood clinched at least second place in district as Mia Wiele scored one goal and assisted on two other goals. Kylie Denton, Tayla Score and Molly Harvey also had goals for the Warriors.

Vista Ridge 4, Manor 0: Lily Vandiver’s brace, Bailey Hunter’s four assists and goals from Kendel Alford and Olivia Clark led the Rangers, who maintained sole possession of third place in District 25-6A. Alexis Morrison had the shutout.

District 25-6A: As the season nears the end of district play, Round Rock has 34 points, Westwood is second with 29, Vista Ridge is third with 20 points and the trio of Stony Point, Cedar Ridge and Vandegrift are tied for fourth with 15 points each.

Dripping Springs 1, Lake Travis 1: Two of the soundest fundamental teams in the Austin area played to a 1-1 draw in District 26-6A as Tigers senior Gabi Ridenhour scored off an assist by Lily Ruff. Lake Travis had a highlight reel run by freshman Jaz Diaz for its goal.

Austin High 2, Westlake 1: Kate Loudamy and Eva Narvarte finished goals as the Maroons defeated their rival across the lake in District 26-6A play. Kate Grannis scored for the Chaps.

Anderson 5, Del Valle 0: Kendall Meachum and Charlie McCreery combined for the clean sheet and Stella Tatum, Gracie Huff, Megan Ford, Meesha Akbar and Claire Navarro all scored for the Trojans.

District 26-6A: Six teams remain locked in a fierce race for the four playoff spots. Due to the nine teams in district, not all have played the same number of matches through this week. Anderson and Johnson are tied for first with 26 points, but Johnson has played one less match due to the district bye. Lake Travis is next with 25 points and have also had their bye while Westlake has 25 points but like Anderson has played 13 matches. Bowie had 21 points with 12 matches while Dripping Springs has 20 points with 13 matches as this week shapes up to provide some great soccer.

Cedar Park 3, Glenn 0: Meredith Klotz had a goal and two assists, Sofia Peters and Isabel Peters had a goal each and Abbie Hall added an assist for the Timberwolves. Goalkeeper Jemma Hart notched her eighth district shutout.

Georgetown 5, Cedar Creek 1: Finley Newell blasted in two goals and Georgetown got goals from Dennie Decker, Kate Cowley and Aubrey Pelczar to beat their namesake Eagles of Cedar Creek.

Leander 5, Lehman 0: Kylie Bernal and Paige Davis scored two goals each with Bernal adding two assists and Davis one as the first-place Lions blanked Lehman. Kylie Quinn added a goal and Alicia Aguinaga notched an assist. Lions goalkeeper Jovie Mise had the shutout, and it’s worth nothing that the Lions defense held Lehman without a shot.

Liberty Hill 8, Lockhart 0: Gracie Garner scored four goals to lead the Panthers to an impressive 25-5A win over Lockhart.

Ann Richards 1, Crockett 0: Isabella Farias scored the only goal of the match on a penalty kick for the Raptors victory. Ann Richards is 9-1-4 (31 points for third place in District 24-5A).

Ann Richards 10, Travis 0: Isabella Farias had a double hat trick with three goals and three assists for the Stars. Becky Madrid added two goals and an assist, Kaia Manzur had a goal and an assist, while May Bubloz Thomas and Josie Rojas each had two assists. Also scoring goals were Mia Cazares, Mia Kimmel, Skylar Moren and Ayla Gonzales.

McCallum 6, Travis 0: Sarah Hauck had two goals and an assist as the Knights blanked Travis to improve to 12-1-1 in district (37 points, two behind LASA).

St. Michael’s Academy falls in playoffs: The Crusaders capped a 13-2-3 season with a 3-2 playoff loss to Tyler Grace Community. The two losses were a school record low. Lauren Hill ended up the season with a school-record 40 goals. Midfield standout Laney Kalsu will graduate and go to Oklahoma to play soccer.

LASA 11, LBJ 0: The first-place Raptors improved to 12-0-3 in district play by out-scoring district opens 72-2 in the 15 matches.

Kudos to Anderson players: Anderson High School teachers nominate and vote for seniors to be selected as “Who’s Who” recipients. Recipients are those that demonstrate a commitment to making a positive difference in the classroom and for the greater Anderson community throughout their four years at Anderson.They have excelled in academics, extracurricular activities community service and leadership. 13 seniors are chosen each year and there are 555 seniors in this class. This year, five of the 13 selected represent Anderson girls soccer. Lady Trojans receiving this high honor are: Sophia Greenaway-Dickson, Allie Meachum, Kendall Meachum, Jessica Greenway and Abbey Ford.“I’m so proud I don’t even have the words,” Anderson soccer coach Emily Horvath said.
