HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: The Track and Field state championships kickoff

The first day of the Division 6 MIAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships took place on Thursday in North Andover.

Mashpee

Lucas Dehelan placed 16th (2:07.93) in the boys 800m, while Tyler Theodore followed up in 26th place (2:10.25).

Anna Jensen finished 29th (2:43.18) in the girls 800m.

Monomoy

Alique Brown set a new personal record time (2:32.86) in the boys 200m with a second place finish.

Laura Stone ended in 13th place of the 800m (2:32.86).

Sturgis West

Dylan Moreno set a new personal record in the boys 400m hurdles (58.47) with a third place finish, while Noah Wilcox also hit a new personal record with a 13th place finish (1:01.90).

Shane Stanghellini finished second in the boys two-mile (9:45.00), while Michael Nossek placed fifth in the boys 200m (22.63).

Cullin Enright had a 24th place (2:10.07) in the boys 800m.

RJ Woolery had a new personal record in the boys triple jump with a 40-09.50, while Sally Penswick finished 20th (32-00.00) in the girls triple jump.

Claire Heller came in 22nd (13:04.81) place in the girls two-mile, while Hailey Butler was right behind her in 23rd place (13:05.92).

The MIAA Division 4 Intercollegiate Association of Amateur Athletes of America took place on Thursday in Westfield.

Falmouth

Silas Gartner was runner-up in the boys two-mile (9:18.54), while Robert Simpkins came in 26th of the boys 400m hurdles (1:04.22).

Nauset

For the boys pentathlon, Paytah Dill finished fifth in the 110m hurdles (16.57), 10th in the 1500m (5:14.66), 10th in the high jump (1.55m), first in the long jump (6.48m, p.r.), and eighth in the shot put (9.80m).

Damian Bebber placed seventh in the boys 200m (22.89), while Rihanna Sutherland finished eighth in the girls 200m (26.76).

Reed Dill set a new personal record in the boys 400m hurdles (1:01.77) for 15th place.

Madeline Mahoney placed 13th in the girls 800m (2:24.63).

Peter Silvernail placed 13th in the boys discus throw (120-11).

Elizabeth Mayer finished in fifth place of the girls discus throw with a new personal record (100-08), while Adrianna Morgan followed up in eighth place (97-05).

Isaiah Robinson had an 11th place finish in the boys triple jump (40-11.00), while Violet Roche finished fifth in the girls triple jump (35-10.00).

Baseball

Sturgis 7, Nantucket 3: Seniors Travis Markowski and Jack Sullivan combined for the Sturgis (6-10) win over the Whalers (5-14) on Senior Night. Kevin Getchell had three hits and scored two runs and, while James Hereford finished with two hits and two RBIs for Sturgis. Dolan Cameron had a sacrifice fly and Ben Conlon added an RBI single that broke the game open in the sixth inning.

Lawrence 4, Barnstable 0: The Red Hawks (14-5) were shutout, and lost back-to-back games, for the first time this season.

Boys Lacrosse

Monomoy 14, Falmouth Academy 1: The Sharks (15-3) ended their regular season with six wins over their last seven games as they beat the Mariners (2-10). Joey McKeen (four goals, one assist), Jackson Rocco (two goals, three assists), Seamus St. Pierre (two goals, two assists), Tamer Khalil (two goals, three assists), Aidan Stone (one goal, one assist), Owen Ramler (one goal, one assist), Jed Zimmerman (one goal), Dillon Chapman (one goal), and Harry Michaud (one assist) led the offense for Monomoy.

The Sharks defense was led by Braeden Darling, Max Barrett, Max Ramler, Jackson Morneau, Cole Strzepek, and Emmett Giorgio, while Jake Giorgio and Harrison Beaumont combined for 13 saves.

Girls Lacrosse

Monomoy 24, Falmouth Academy 14: The Sharks (11-7) finished their regular season with a victory over the Mariners (6-8).

Paige Hash (seven goals), Karah Deveau (six goals), Susannah Brown (three goals), Abrielle Long (three goals), Tessa (two goals), Lucy Bates (one goal), Victoria Letendre had six saves in net for Monomoy.

Faye McGuire (seven goals, four draw controls), Thalia O'Neill (three goals, two assists), Lizzy Blauer (two goals), Natalie Hurlbut (one goal, five draws), Mira Davis (one goal), Clara Athearn (one goal), Susanna Lowell (one draw) led the offense, while Willow Wakefield made nine saves in goal for Falmouth Academy.

Martha’s Vineyard 12, Sturgis East 3: The Vineyarders (8-8) have won three of their last four games as they beat the Storm (3-12).

Falmouth 11, Marshfield 8: The Clippers finished the regular season 9-10.

Cape Cod Academy 17, Mashpee 9: The Seahawks (12-4) won their fourth straight as they beat the Falcons (6-12).

Ciara Hendricks (two goals, two assists), Sophie Morin (two goals two assists), Claire Howard (two goals, one assist), Sky Hickey (one goal, one assist), Ari Andrade (one goal), Kai Christo (one goal) led the offense, while Riley Thomas had 10 saves in goal for Mashpee.

Sandwich 16, Scituate 12: The Lady Knights (18-1) finished the regular season on a five game win streak. Quinn Anderson (five goals, one assist), Avery Cobban (four goals, one assist), Kyla Darmon (two goals, one assist), Elisabeth Stutzman (two goals, one assist), Julia O'Neil (one goal, one assist), Abi Kinney (one goal), and Kolbie Darmon (one goal) led the Sandwich offense.

St. John Paul II 14, Dennis-Yarmouth 6: The Lions (13-4) have won 10 of their 11 games as they defeated the Dolphins (4-11). Akira Umbrello (four goals, two assists), Sophie Philbrick (three goals, three assists), Mia Curley (three goals), Raegan Dillon (two goals, two assists), Emma Tucker (one goal, three assists), Katelyn Lawson (one goal, one assist), Charlotte Sturgis (two assists, 14 draw controls), and Meah Dalrymple (one assist) led the offense, while Kiera Nakachi had nine saves in goal.

Barnstable 24, Stoughton 18: The Red Hawks (10-6) finished the regular season on a three game win streak. Chloe Egan (10 goals, three assists), Alyssa McEneaney (six goals, two assists, six draw controls), Claire Kayajan (four goals, three assists), Giovanna DeToledo (two goals, two assists), Shelby Locascio (two goals, two assists), Caroline Curley (one assist), and Caroline Meins (eight controls) each contributed on offense, while Morgan Mueller finished with eight saves in goal for Barnstable.

Boys Volleyball

Barnstable 3, Southeastern 0: The Red Hawks (16-4) will enter the postseason next week on a eight match win streak.

Girls Tennis

Monomoy 5, Bourne 0: The Sharks (14-4) finished the regular season on a 10 match win streak as they swept the Lady Canalmen (8-10). Tatiana Malone defeated Zoe Ridl in first singles (8-1), Lilly Gould beat McKinley Wenzel in second singles (8-4), and Hanadi Rezk won third singles (8-0) over Anna Conlon for Monomoy. Darcy Addison and Karina Khalsa defeated Lily Russell and Sofia Halunen in first doubles (8-0), while Madison Mahfouz and Cecelia Hand beat Addie Dion and Maeve Machlachlan in second doubles (8-4).

Boys Tennis

Monomoy 4, Bourne 1: The Sharks (12-6) have won seven of their last eight matches as they beat the Canalmen (5-13). Gavin McDonnell defeated Jake Roux in first singles (8-1), Connor Francis beat Doug Lunedei in second singles (8-5), and Paul Carlson won third singles (8-1) over Thomas Dean for Monomoy. Logan Koosa and Jonathan Santucci defeated Liam Jordan and Stephen Kelly in first doubles (8-5), while Monomoy won second doubles by forfeit.

Wareham 3, St. John Paul II 2: Ben Kowal and Zach Jones each won their single matches as the Lions finished their regular season 2-18.
