HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Sturgis West girls basketball ends streak with win

The Sturgis West girls basketball team picked up their first win of the season as they beat Old Colony 37-22 on Monday. Jocelyn DeMedeiros would not be denied as she led the Navigators to victory with 19 points and 11 rebounds. Aubrey Flynn (eight points), Kennedy McCartin (six points), Jenna DeMedeiros (five points), and Ryley Mayo (three points) each contributed for Sturgis West.

Girls Basketball

Nantucket 35, Rising Tide 16: The Whalers (2-6) have won two of their last four games after a 0-4 start to the season.

Upper Cape 49, Blue Hills 46: The Rams (2-2) are back at .500 with a Mayflower Atlantic Conference win.

Boys Basketball

Upper Cape 61, Cape Tech 38: Chase Pierce scored 18 points in the first quarter (21 total) for the Rams (6-1) as they beat the Crusaders (4-5). Jared Coates added 10 points for the Rams, while nine other players (11 total) scored for Upper Cape. Brendan Grogan led the Crusaders with 13 points (trio of three-pointers), despite not playing the fourth quarter (two technical fouls).

Old Colony 67, Sturgis West 32: The Navigators (2-5) have lost three in a row after a 2-2 start to the season.

Boys Hockey

Nantucket 7, St. John Paul II 1: Since losing their season opener, the Whalers (6-1) have won six straight, while the Lions fall to 3-6-1.
