GIRLS BASKETBALL

Division I

Ponaganset 53, Classical 39

The Purple's Shanell Smith Akpan led all scorers with 29 points, but it wasn't enough as the Chieftains prevailed. Jaina Yekelchik led Ponaganset's attack with 17 points. Paige Doolittle added 13 and Kaitlyn Simoneau had 12. Ponaganset improves to 11-4 while Classical falls to 2-11.

Scituate 40, South Kingstown 38

A layup by Simona Mancini with 11 seconds left in the contest snapped a 48-all tie and Scituate held on to surprised South Kingstown in a D-I C battle. Mancini also topped the Spartans in scoring with 7 points and teammate Sydney Pagnozzi chipped in with 6 points. For the Rebels, Abigail O'Rourke scored a team-high 12 points and Finley Carr scored 8 more.

Division II

Cranston East 56, Mount Pleasant 32

The one-two punch of Mya Jiminez, who pumped in 24 points, and Jayna Gunderway, who had 18, lifted the Thunderbolts (4-11) over the Kilties (0-14). Shyonna Hall had 10 points and Angelica Taveras had 9 for Mount Pleasant.

Moses Brown 49, Mt. Hope 33

Lauren Bousquet poured in 27 points and the Quakers remained perfect in the division as they improved to 17-0 with a victory over the Huskies (3-11). Elsa White had 9 points for Mt. Hope.

Shea/Tolman 67, Smithfield 43

Capitalizing on the play of one of the best backcourt tandems in Rhode Island girls high school hoops, the Pawtucket Co-op rolled to victory over the Sentinels. Tiyara Gonzalez scored 26 points, which included 6 threes, and she also dished off 5 assists and backcourt mate Armani Rivera poured in 20 points and also had 5 helpers in the win. Ashley Gagner topped Smithfield in scoring with 13 points.

Division II

West Warwick 50, Prout 25

The Wizards had a dominating third quarter, outscoring the Crusaders, 20-7, and they went on to post a convincing victory. The scoring was spread around for the victors with Jade Truss leading the way with 11 points. Lex Foley had 9 points and Liz Gresian had 8 points. Prout was led by Sylvia Mayo who had 6 points.

Division III

Lincoln School 71, Lincoln 45

The Lynx were led by Sarah Hassan's 24 points and Reign Whiteing's 23 as they clinched their 6th win in Division III play. Hevin Stanford added 11 points in the win. For the Lions (7-8), Lauren Cipriano scored a game-high 26 points in the loss.

Central Falls 47, Middletown 31

Pamela Galva and Arielly DeAndrade each scored 17 points to pace the Warriors (6-8) in this Division III clash. Ella Bolano scored a game-high 23 points for the Islanders in the loss.

North Providence 49, Toll Gate 44

Three players — Luisine Hagopian (20 points), Makenna Heon (13) and Riddhi Misty (12) — scored in double figures and the Cougars (9-6) held off the Titans. Adeline Areson had 18 points and Mary McNulty was right behind with 16 for Toll Gate, now 8-6.

Nonleague

Westerly 54, Chariho 46

With the game knotted at 22 at the break, the Bulldogs offense shifted into high gear, outscoring the Chargers 32-24 in the second half and came away with a win. Juliana Voisinet scored a game-high 17 points for Westerly, with Riley Peloquin adding 14 in the nonleague matchup. For Chariho, Tori Babineau and Emily Ballard each scored 11.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Division III

Prout 57, Block Island 35

Charlie Horne pumped in 28 points, including 6 buckets from beyond the the 3-point arc, and teammate Ryan Antonucci was good for another 16 points lifting Prout to its 7th win in its last 9 outings. Justin Cullen led the winless Hurricanes in scoring with 11 points.
