SOFTBALL

La Salle 7, East Greenwich 0

Two big swings gave the Rams all the runs they needed as Hailey Vigneau dominated the Avengers in Division I softball.

La Salle’s first big hit came in the third inning. The Rams loaded the bases to open the frame, but EG’s Ava Fairbanks struck out the next two batters. Up stepped Elle Kershaw, who lofted a ball toward the fence in right-center far enough that it couldn’t be caught, clearing the bases for a 3-0 lead.

In the fourth, Phoenyx Silva hit a ball nobody was going to catch. With Giuliana Ialongo standing on third base after a one-out triple, Silva crushed a pitch on the outside part of the plate 30 feet over the fence in right-center to put La Salle up 5-0.

La Salle's Hailey Vigneau was on top of her game on Monday, giving up two hits and striking out eight as the Rams remained undefeated in D-I with a 7-0 win over East Greenwich.

Alivia Ring put the finishing touches on the win for La Salle in the seventh, hitting a two-run double that brough home Kershaw and pinch-runner Calley Alves.
