HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Nauset boys and girls indoor track teams crowned C&I League Champions

The Cape and Islands League Championship for boys and girls Indoor Track and Field took place at the the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston on Sunday.

Girls Indoor Track and Field

Nauset was crowned the Cape and Island League Champs as they finished first with a score of 119.5, while Dennis-Yarmouth placed second with 104.5, and Barnstable took third with 94.

For the first place Warriors, senior captain Liz Mayer threw a 30-11.25 in the shot put for first, while junior Madeline Mahoney won the 1000m in 3:08.46. Sophomore Violet Roche high jumped 5-02" and long jumped 16-08" for first places finishes.

For D-Y, Breanna Braham won the 55m (7.46), and the 300m (40.92, p.r. and 2nd in the State), while Brianna Hanniford placed first I the 55m hurdles (9.41, p.r.). The 4x200m of Tianna Jacques, Braham, Rose Anna Joachim, and Deshawni Baker finished first in 1:54.14.

For Barnstable, senior captain Lilly DeDecko finished her season undefeated in the mile and two mile in 5:21 and 11:28 respectively, and anchored the winning 4x400m relay team along with teammates Makenna Dennis, Kerra Clifford and Sophia Murphy in a time of 4:40.85. Chloe Dibb won the 600m in a personal record of 1:40.94.

The 4x800m relay team of Emma Steenstra, Layla Notemeyer, Dibb and Callie DeDecko won with a time of 10:43, about a minute in front of runne rup Nauset.

Boys Indoor Track and Field

Cape and Islands League Championship: Nauset won the Cape and Island League Championship with a score of 120 points, while Barnstable had 102 for second and Falmouth with 76 points for third at the Reggie Lewis Center on Sunday.

For the Warriors, senior captain Damian Bebber place first in the 300m (36.78) fand the 600m (1:32.87), while senior captain Paytah Dill long jumped 19-04.75' for first place. Junior Adian Brown won the 55m hurdles (8.00), and the 55m dash (6.79), while the 4x200 Relay team (Adian Brown, Reed Dill, Dominic Bebber, and Damian Bebber) ran a season best 1:36.13 for first place.

For Barnstable, senior Harry Ells took first in the shot put to remain undefeated in league action this season with a toss of 41' 01". The relay team of Jay Cornwall, Jaxson Merrill, Ryan Wolfe and Kevin DeFeudis won the 4x800m realy by about 30 seconds ahead of second place finisher Falmouth in 9:26.97.

Girls Basketball

St. John Paul II 59, Nantucket 34: The Lions (13-4) have won eight of their last nine game as they snapped the Whalers (9-7) seven game win streak on Monday. Devin Crofford dropped 22 points, while Marlo Jumper added 16 points for JPII.

Falmouth Academy 31, Sturgis East 24: Freshman captain Sophie Holmes led the Mariners (10-4) with 14 points in a victory over the Storm

Nauset 41, Cape Cod Academy 37: The Warriors (7-9) snapped a three game losing streak as they beat the Seahawks (5-10).

Upper Cape 51, Blue Hills 45: The Rams (12-2) won their 11th straight game. Alaina Hines finished with a game-high of 24 points, while Hayley King added 20 points for Upper Cape.

Boys Basketball

South Shore Tech 50, Cape Tech 48: The Crusaders (8-10) have dropped two of their last three games.

Sturgis West 48, St. John Paul II 42: The Navigators (6-9) snapped the Lions (4-11) three game win streak.

Boys Hockey

Somerville 6, St. John Paul II 2: The Lions dropped to 4-11-2.

Swim and Dive

Cape and Islands Last Chance Meet: The Last Chance Meet gave swimmers one last shot at swimming a sectional or state qualifying time.

The Martha's Vineyard 400 Yard Freestyle Relay team of Ronan Mullin (55.10), Claus Smith (55.76), Emmett Silva (55.75) and Kaua DeAssis (51.84) qualified for the Division 2 State Championship in the with a time of 3:38.45.
