HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Monomoy boys lacrosse wins seventh straight to remain undefeated

The Monomoy boys lacrosse (7-0) team remain unbeaten with their seventh straight win as they beat Martha's Vineyard (1-5) 8-6 on Wednesday. The Sharks offense was led by Tamer Khalil (two goals, two assists), Jackson Rocco (two goals, one assist), Christian Whittle (one goal, one assist) Jed Zimmerman (one goal), Owen Ramler (one goal), Niko Vujosevic (one goal), Max Barrett (two assists),and Jake Giorgio (one assist). The defense was led by Braeden Darling, Barrett, Jackson Morneau, Max Ramler, and Zimmerman, while Jake Giorgio had 14 saves in goal.

Boys Lacrosse

Falmouth 13, Barnstable 2: The Clippers (7-1) picked up the win over the Red Hawks (2-6). Doug Carr and Ryan O’Donnell each scored a goal, while Chase Field had an assist for Barnstable.

Sandwich 8, Hanover 6: The Blue Knights (6-2) have won three in a row behind 16 saves in goal from Shane Corcoran. Dan Oman (three goals, one assist), Cole Rodgers (two goals), Kurt Moniz (two goals), Sullivan Gaffney (one goal), and Harry Delman (three assists) all contributed on offenese for Sandwich. Tate Baeker and Lincoln Shinn played well on defense.

Bourne 10, Seekonk 9: The Canalmen (5-3) beat their conference rivals in a close matchup with the winner coming off the stick of freshman Max Ridl.

Ty Hawkes had played multiple roles at defense, midfield, attack and faceoff and finished with four goals and three assists for Bourne. Sean Kelley (two goals, 75% on faceoffs), Drew Kelley (one goal, two assists), Ryan Haden (one goal, one assist), and Brett Lucier (one goal, one assist) all contributed on offense.

Frank Gruel, Ethan Fox, and Brian Murphy were physical and aggressive on defense as they protected the crease and forced outside shots, and Max Beals played well between the pipes with 19 saves, which included 10 in the fourth quarter.

Bristol Plymouth 18, Cape Tech 1: The Crusaders fall to 0-7.

Upper Cape 10, Westport 1: The Rams (4-3) remain unbeaten on their home field as they have won three of their last four.

Girls Lacrosse

Seekonk 13, Bourne 8: Taylor Simard (two assists) and Hannah Petrillo each scored three goals for the Lady Canalmen (1-7). Mac Scully (one goal), Sienna Silva (one goal), Lila Moerman (three assists) also contributed on offense, while Mia Lowden had 10 saves in goal for Bourne.

Upper Cape 18, Bristol Aggie 1: The Rams (7-1) have won six straight as Adryanna Turner led the way with five goals. Caitlin Greeley had three goals, Emma Hanoian, Alaina Hines and Ariana Pearson had two goals each, and Jessi Girouard, Hanna Guay, Macee Pina, and Hayley King each had one goal for Upper Cape. Skylar Rinta played well on defense along with Lia Estes and Ally Webb.

Girls Tennis

Sandwich 5, Carver 0: The Lady Knights (2-4) picked up their first road win of the season. Kaity Landry won first singles (6-2, 6-0), over Leila Daly, Arianna Tedeschi beat Lillian Wiafe in second singles (6-0, 6-1), and Chloe Choon defeated Brooke Bonham in third singles (6-1, 6-0) for Sandwich.

Tenley Rothera and Cora Tedeschi won first doubles (6-0, 6-0), while Senja Kravitz and Abby Binienda won second doubles (6-0, 6-0).

Nantucket 3, Cape Academy 2: After they dropped their senior opener, the Whalers (3-1) have won three in a row as they beat the Seahawks (3-3). Lily Chidnik won the lone singles match over Julia McCaffery in second singles (6-4, 6-1) for Nantucket. Chloe Marerro and Hannah Gerrardi defeated Yoana Dokleva and Molly Lowery in first doubles (7-5, 6-4), while Fiona Keltz and Sara Dusseault beat Kaleigh Howe and Megan Morey in second doubles (7-5, 6-4).

Lili Shanahan defeated Joan Harris in first singles (6-1, 6-2), while Jemma Meadows beat Lauren Cutone in third singles (6-3, 6-1) for Cape Cod Academy.

Norwell 5, Mashpee 0: After a 3-1 start, the Falcons(3-4) have dropped three in a row.

Barnstable 5, Dennis-Yarmouth 0: After an 0-3 start to the season, the Red Hawks (2-3) have won two straight as they swept the Dolphins (0-5).

Sophia Davis beat Olivia Boyer in first singles (6-1, 10-6), Isadora Brandaro defeated Kelsang Gurung in second singles (6-2, 6-2), and Teagan Geraghty won over Willania Thompson in third singles (6-1, 6-0) in third singles for Barnstable. Kate Condinho and Maddie Devoe beat Maddy Stewart and Aimee Teague in first doubles (6-0, 6-0), and Dana Edwards and Sofia Tymchynsky defeated Carolina Vaaterio Fernandez and Kaitlin Clarke in second doubles (6-0, 6-0).

St. John Paul II 5, Sturgis West 0: The Lions (8-0) remain unbeaten with their eighth straight win as they beat the Navigators (0-2). The highlight of the day was the singles match between Lily Walker for the Lions and Brody Gerlach of the Navigators with a score of 4-6, 7-5 (7-3), and 10-6.

Martha’s Vineyard 4, Nauset 1: The Vineyarders (2-2) handed the Warriors (3-1) their first loss of the season. Leah Thomson defeated Anjali O’Brien in second singles (2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (8)), while Zoe Treitman defeated Sophia Votteler in third singles (6-2, 6-1) for Martha's Vineyard. Sophia Balsas and Ellie Pennington defeated Faye Adams and Alexa Malouin in first doubles (6-4, 6-2), and Ella Moran and Clementine Zeender beat Haley Jackson and Kendall in second doubles (6-0, 6-1). Nicole Boyce defeated Elaina Dubin in first singles (6-3, 7-6,(5)) for Nauset.

Monomoy 3, Falmouth 2: The Sharks (3-3) snapped a three game losing streak as they beat the Clippers (1-4). Tatiana Malone defeated Genevive Moranchie in first singles (6-2, 6-0), while Hanadi Rezk beat Gayatri Chatured in third singles (6-0, 6-0) for Monomoy. Cecilia Hand and Lauren Laselva defeated Sadie Inman and Phoebe Hodgson in second doubles (6-3, 3-6, 6-2).

Maia Ledwell defeated Lilly Gould in second singles (6-2, 7-5), and Alexis Christian and Marcella de Paula defeated Karina Khalsa and Madison Mahfouz in first doubles (2-6 7-5 7-6 (3)) for Falmouth.

Boys Tennis

Monomoy 4, Falmouth 1: The Sharks (3-3) picked up the win over the Clippers (2-3) as they swept the singles matches. Ryan Casey defeated Thomas Ghossein in first singles (6-1, 6-1) Gavin McDonnell beat Jack Beardsley in second singles (6-2, 6-1), and Roman Pavluchenko won over Sebastian Verslycke in third singles (6-0, 6-0) for Monomoy. Liam Jordan and Blake Noonan defeated Aiden Corey and Henry Stoerner in second doubles (6-0, 6-2).

Sam Collins and Jacob Faidell defeated Connor Francis and Ethan Seufert in first doubles (6-2, 6-2) for Falmouth.

Sandwich 5, Carver 0: The Blue Knights (2-2) remain unbeaten on their home court with a sweep victory.

Andrew Emmel beat Braeden Gadles in first singles (6-0, 6-0), Kallen Kestenbaum defeated Will Lyman in second singles (6-0, 6-0), and Quinn Johnston beat Jackson Tassi in third singles (6-0, 6-0) for Sandwich.

Joey LaScola and Andrew Chanya beat Nick Mallon and Quinn Wiley in first doubles (6-0, 6-0), while Liam McLaughlin and Oakley Gully(S) won by forfeit.

Barnstable 4, Dennis-Yarmouth 1: The Red Hawks (3-1) picked up their first road win of the season as they beat the Dolphins (2-4). Brennan Riley defeated Oscar Turek in first singles (6-3, 6-1), while Eric Arabadziev beat Collin Caron in third singles (6-4, 6-1) for Barnstable.

Connor O'Reilly and Mike Higginbotham defeated Landon Richter and Michael O'Reilly in first doubles (6-1, 6-3), while Thomas Berger and Andy Coombs beat Aidan Karras and Ryan Clarke in second doubles (6-1, 6-3). Max Mingo defeated Harry Baroni in second singles (6-3, 6-1) for D-Y.

Cape Cod Academy 3, Nantucket 2: The Seahawks (4-1) handed the Whalers (3-1) their first loss of the season with their fourth straight win. Ben Catalano defeated Boyan Kalpazanov in first singles (6-4, 6-3), while Ayden Naydenov beat Henry Kathawala in second singles (6-4, 6-3) for Cape Cod Academy. Connor Hall and Garret Wilson defeated Hawkin Edwardes and Soren Edwardes in first doubles (6-3, 6-2).

Sam Iller defeated Luke Caleshu in third singles (6-4, 6-1), while Fuller Hollano and Forbes Keating beat Cooper Hall and Declan Livingston ins second doubles in second doubles (6-0, 6-0).

Wareham 5, St. John Paul II 0: The Lions fall to 1-7.

Norwell 3, Mashpee 2: The Falcons (3-3) snapped a three game winning streak. James Benner beat Luca Moretti in third singles (4-6, 6-4, 1-0 (12-10)), while Jack Foley and Jimmy Dean won their first varsity matches in second doubles (6–3, 7–5) over Owen Sadowski and Colton Schipani for Mashpee.

Softball

Plymouth South 12, Dennis-Yarmouth 0: After a 3-1 start, the Dolphins (3-4) have lost three in a row. Lily Leandre and Shae McSharry had the lone two hits for D-Y.

Falmouth 20, Barnstable 2: Rylin Briggs pitched two innings (five Ks), Anna Bennett pitched three innings (four Ks) for the Clippers (4-2) win over the Red Hawks (0-6). Briggs finished 2-for-3 with a triple, three runs scored, and three RBIs for Falmouth. Kendall Joseph had two-RBI single in the 1st inning, while Katie Medeiros went 1-for-2 with an RBI single in the 1st inning. Madison Flynn had several strikeouts for the Red Hawks.

Monomoy 20, Nauset 1: The Sharks (5-1) won their first home game of the season as they beat the Warriors (2-5).

Dighton-Rehoboth 19, Bourne 4: The Lady Canalmen (1-4) have dropped four in a row. Bourne had six hits as Liv Ruginski led off the second inning and scored on a Mayla Muldoon base hit. Jill Allen also had a hit and Jadyn Morrell drove Muldoon and Allen in.

Martha’s Vineyard 26, Mashpee 13: The Vineyarders (2-3) snapped a two game slide as they beat the Falcons (0-3).

Baseball

Monomoy 14, Sturgis 1: The Sharks (4-4) broke a three game slide with a win over Sturgis (1-3). Chace Robbins pitched a complete as he allowed one run, one hit and struck out eight for Monomoy. The Sharks offense was led by Reign Stephens, who had two hits and three RBIs, and Gareth Voss had a two run triple.

Nauset 9, Martha’s Vineyard 0: Jake Doherty went six scoreless innings, scattered five hits and struck out nine for the Warriors (8-1) seventh win as they beat the Vineyarders (3-2).. Brody Bassett went 2–3 at the plate with a double and 2 RBIs and Ethan Beer went 2-2 with 2 RBIs. Nauset recorded 11 hits and 9 stolen bases on offense.

Barnstable 1, Falmouth 0: Sladen Johnson threw a complete game, allowed one hit and struck out seven for the Red Hawks (6-1) win over the Clippers (1-6). Owen Walsh drove in the only run of the game in the 2nd inning, as he went 1-for-2 at the plate with a walk. Johnson scored the run after being walked.

Bourne 3, Dighton-Rehoboth 0: The Canalmen (2-5) snapped a four game sldie with the win. Ryan Sullivan pitched a complete game, allowed four hits, and struck out six for Bourne. The Canalmen had four hits, which was led by Ty Kelley's double and a steal at home that gave them their third run.

St. John Paul II 16, Rising Tide 6: The Lions (4-3) have won three of their last four games. Logan Our went 3-for-3 with five RBIs and four runs scored, while Brian Mancinelli went 3-for-3 with five RBIs and three runs for JPII. Brady Meyer was 1-for-3 (two RBIs, one run), Tyler Ross (two RBIs, one run), Colin Buckley (one run) and Tim Cronin (two runs) all finished 2-for-3. Henry Roy pitched the final four innings and allowed one hit, two runs (none earned), two walks and struck out seven.

Norwell 9, Mashpee 7: The Falcons (3-3) trailed 7-0 after the 4th inning and cut it down to one run in the 7th inning, but could not complete the comeback. Jason Merkman had two of the Falcons four hits as they left nine on base in the game.

Girls Golf

Monomoy 6, Nauset 0: The Sharks remain unbeaten at 6-0 as they beat the Warriors (1-3) at Cape Cod National. Ava Packett (4&3), Ava Larocco (2-up), Yu Ying Zou (2&1), Emily Layton (5&4), Sally Watson (5&4), and Georgia Storey (1-up) each scored a point for Monomoy.
