HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Cape Cod Academy boys tennis rolls on with 10th straight win

The Cape Cod Academy boys tennis lost their season opener to Monomoy on April 5. Since then, they have not lost one match.

The Seahawks (10-1) won their 10th straight match as they beat Nantucket (5-5) 3-2 on Thursday.

Ben Catalano defeated Boyan Kalpazanov in first singles (6-1, 6-1), Ayden Naydenov beat Nik Krastev in second singles (6-4, 6-7(6) 7-6(4)), and Garret Wilson and Connor Hall won first doubles (6-1, 6-3) over Soren Edwardes and Hawkin Edwardes for Cape Cod Academy.

Henry Kathawala defeated Declan Livingston in third singles (6-2, 6-3), while Sam Iller and Fuller Holland beat Cooper Hall and Henry Daigle (6-3, 6-1) for Nantucket.

Nauset 4, Falmouth 1: The Warriors (8-3) have won four of their last five matches as they beat the Clippers (5-8). Lucas Wilson-Bevington beat Thomas Ghossein in first singles (6-2, 6-3), while Salvi Cacciola defeated Jack Beardsley in third singles (6-2, 6-2) for Nauset.

Tom Foley and Joey Smith defeated Sam Collins and Jacob Faidell in first doubles (6-7 (5), 6-4, 10-4), while Will Murphy and Soren Jones-Carlson beat Sebastian Veslyke and Henry Stoener in second doubles (6-0, 6-2).

Quintin Hefferon defeated Jason White in second singles (6-3, 6-3) for Falmouth.

Monomoy 4, Dennis-Yarmouth 1: The Sharks (6-5) snapped a two match slide as they beat the Dolphins (3-9) on the road. Ryan Casey beat Max Mingo in first singles (6-0, 6-1), Gavin McDonnell defeated Collin Caron in second singles (4-6, 6-1, (10-6)), and Roman Pavlechenko won third singles (6-0, 6-1) over Tyrel Hayles for Monomoy. Ethan Seufert and Blake Noonan beat Aidan Karras and Ryan Clarke in second doubles (6-0, 6-1).

Oscar Turek and Michael O'Reilly defeated Connor Francis and Paul Carlson in first doubles (6-3, 6-3) for D-Y.

Fairhaven 5, Bourne 0: The Canalmen (4-8) fell on their home court.

Girls Tennis

Monomoy 5, Dennis-Yarmouth 0: The Sharks (7-4) have won five of their last six matches as they swept the Dolphins (0-11). Tatiana Malone defeated Tristan Bradford in first singles (6-1, 6-0), Lilly Gould beat Kelsang Gurung in seocnd singles (6-0, 6-0), and Hanadi Rezk won third singles (6-2, 6-0) over Willama Thompson for Monomoy.

Karina Khalsa and Darcy Addison defeated Willasia Thompson and Maddy Stewart in first doubles (6-0, 6-0), while Sophia Sarabia and Madison Mahfouz beat Aimee Teague and Alana Carnage in second doubles (6-1, 6-2).

Fairhaven 3, Bourne 2: The Lady Canalmen (6-5) came up short on their home court. Lily Russell and Sofia Halunen defeated Emily Giammalvo and Madeline Gamelin in first doubles (6-2, 6-4), while Ainsley Hopwood and Zoe Noonan beat Tracy Zhao and Hazel Hochella in second doubles (3-6, 6-0 (10-7)) for Bourne.

Cape Cod Academy 3, Nantucket 2: The Seahawks (9-4) have won six of their last seven matches as they beat the Whalers (6-3). Lili Shanahan defeated Joan Harris in first singles (6-1, 6-4), Jemma Meadows beat Lauren Cotune in third singles (6-4, 7-6 (7-5)), and Kaleigh Howe and Megan Morey won second doubles (6-3, 6-4) over Fiona Keltz and Sutton LeBrecht for Cape Cod Academy.

Lily Chibnik defeated Julia McCaffrey in second singles (6-1, 6-1), while Chloe Marerro and Hannah Gerardi beat Yoana Dokleva and Molly Lowery in first doubles (5-7, 6-4, 6-3) for Nantucket.

Martha’s Vineyard 4, Barnstable 1: The Vineyarders (6-5) have won three of their four matches with the win over the Red Hawks (2-8). Alaina Dubin defeated Sophia Davis in first singles (6-0, 6-3), Leah Thomson beat Isadora Brandao ins second singles (6-1, 7-5), and Zoe Treitman won third singles (6-2, 6-3) over Teagan Geraghty for Martha's Vineyard. Sophia Balsas-Fuentes and Ellie Pennington defeated Maddie Devoe and Kate Kadino in first doubles (5-7, 6-0, 6-0).

Dawn Edwards and Sophia Tymchyshyn beat Sophie Winters and Sophie Roads in second doubles (6-4, 2-6, 1-0 (6)) for Barnstable.

Girls Golf

Falmouth 5.5, Dennis-Yarmouth 0.5: The Clippers (3-9) picked up the win over the Dolphins (1-9) at Bass River Golf Course.

Boys Lacrosse

Sandwich 12, Bridgewater-Raynham 3: The Blue Knights (11-2) have won eight straight as Avery Richardson and Jack Connolly each scored three goals and dished out two assists. Harrison Delman (three goals), Dan Oman (two goals, one assist), Cole Rodgers (one goal, two assists), Reece MacKinnon (seven faceoff wins), Shane Corcoran (nine saves) led Sandwich, while Thomas Sutton and Sullivan Gaffney played well all-around.

Monomoy 17, St. John Paul II 3: Tamer Khalil (six goals, two assists) and Joey McKeen (four goals, three assists) led the Sharks (11-2) in a win over the Lions (6-7). Seamus St. Pierre (two goals, one assist), Jed Zimmerman (two goals, one assist), Owen Ramler (one goal, one assist), Max Barrett (one goal), Noah Metters (one goal), Jackson Rocco (two assists), Dillon Chapman (one assist), Cole Strzepek (one assist), Aidan Stone (one assist), and Braeden Darling (one assist) led the offense for Monomoy.

The Sharks defense led by Braeden Darling, Max Barrett, Max Ramler, Jackson Morneau, Javain Headley, Cole Strzepek, and Emmett Giorgio, while Jake Giorgio and Harrison Beaumont had a total of 11 saves, and Charlie Hamilton had a 92% face-off win rate.

Nantucket 9, Nauset 6: The Whalers (10-1) have won eight in a row, while the Warriors (6-7) have dropped six of their last seven against some of the best teams in the state. Logan Poulin and Fenton Smith each scored twice, while Riley Meehan and Ryder Holm each chipped in one goal for Nauset. Chris Burge and Aaron Rogers played in goal, while the team defense also contributed.

Falmouth 17, Barnstable 4: The Clippers (11-3) remain unbeaten at home (5-0) as they beat the Red Hawks (3-10).

Cape Cod Academy 18, Falmouth Academy 6: The Seahawks (8-2) have won eight of their last nine as they beat the Mariners (2-5).

Girls Lacrosse

Martha’s Vineyard 13, Falmouth Academy 3: The Vineyarders (5-6) snapped a two game slide with the win over the Mariners (4-6). Amelia Russell Schaeffer (two goals), Faye McGuire (one two draw controls), and Natalie Hurlbut (four draws) led the offense, while Willow Wakefield had 15 saves in goal for Falmouth Academy.

St. John Paul II 12, Monomoy 7: The Lions (10-4) have found their groove as they have won seven in a row with a win over the Sharks (7-6). Katelyn Lawson led the way with six goals, while Akira Umbrello (two goals, two assists), Emma Tucker (two goals), Mia Curley (one goal, one assist), Raegan Dillon (one goal), Sophie Philbrick (four assists), and Charlotte Sturgis (one assist) also contributed on offense for JPII.

Nantucket 18, Nauset 6: The Whalers (13-0) remain unbeaten with their 13th straight win as they beat the Warriors (7-6). Emerson Pekarcik had eight goals and three assists, while Bailey Lower added six goals, seven assists and 16 draw controls for Nantucket. Cydney Mosscrop (three goals), Dylan Damian (one goal), and Mayson Lower (three assists) also contributed on offense, while Claire Misurelli had 12 saves in goal.

Sienna Reeves scored her 100th goal with three goals, Zoe Labdon added two goals, and Julia Kipperman chipped in one goal for Nauset.

Cape Cod Academy 17, Mashpee 5: Ella Bartolomei had four goals, and two assists as the Seahawks (8-3) beat the Falcons (4-6). Quinn Powers and Reese Moreshead each had three goals, Olivia Powers and Tricia Carr had two goals each, while Willow Ruel, Sophie Jansen, and Payton Bridge each contributed one goal for Cape Cod Academy. Colby Shipman led the defense and earned one assist and one ground ball.

Ciara Hendricks (three goals), Amari Mills (one goal), Claire Howard (one goal), Kai Christo (one assist) led the offense, while Riley Thomas had 11 saves in goal for Mashpee.

Falmouth 12, Barnstable 9: The Clippers (7-7) have won two of their last three games as they beat the Red Hawks (5-5).

Alyssa McEneaney (four goals), Chloe Egan (three goals, three assists), Emelie Jonsson (one goal), Shelby Locascio (one goal, one assist) led the offense, while Morgan Mueller had 17 saves in goal for Barnstable.

Softball

Dennis-Yarmouth 12, Nauset 0: The Dolphins (6-7) have won three straight as they scored eight runs in the third inning in the win over the Warriors (5-8). Savannah Azoff picked up the win as she allowed two hits and no runs, struck out six and walked three over five innings for D-Y. Azoff (two hits), Charleigh Hicks (two hits), Alexa Barboza (one hit, two RBIs) led at the plate.

South Shore Tech 17, Cape Tech 15: The Crusaders (2-9) came up just short on the road as the game was tied 12-12 going into the last inning. Laura Feliz de Jesus (five hits, four runs), Addy Burlingame (three hits, three runs), and Amberlis Hildago (two hits) led Cape Tech.

Falmouth 20, Sandwich 8: The Clippers (8-4) broke a two game slide as they beat the Lady Knights (2-10). Rylin Briggs (3.2 innings pitched), and Anna Bennett (2.1 IP) combined for 12 strikeouts for Falmouth. Kaylee Shaw, Briggs, and Molly Belfiore each had three hits, while Christina Femino and Mickayla Codd each had two hits.

Case 5, Bourne 1: The Lady Canalmen (5-8) fell short at home as they didn't get their first hit (Olivia Meda) until the seventh inning. Jadyn Morrell then hit a double to the fence that scored Meda for the lone run for Bourne.

Baseball

Falmouth 11, Sandwich 1: The Clippers (5-8) have picked it up as they have won four of their last five games as they beta the Blue Knights (8-5). Tre'Chaun Days pitched six innings as he gave up one hit and struck out six for Falmouth. Brody Palmer was 3-for-4 (four RBIs, two-run home run), Max Inman went 2-for-3 (two RBIs), Jack Frostholm finished 3-for-4 (two runs scored), and Days ended 3-for-4 (two RBIs) for the Falmouth offense.

Barnstable 10, Martha’s Vineyard 2: The Red Hawks (11-2) have won four in row as they defeated the Vineyarders (3-7). Eric Stanley pitched a complete game as he struck out out nine, and went 1-for-3 with two RBIs for Barnstable. Luke Harmon went 2-for-3 (three RBIs, two scored runs, two stolen bases), while Anthony DiGiacomo was 2-for-4 (two runs, three stolen bases).

Nauset 2, Dennis-Yarmouth 0: The Warriors (11-4) swept the regular season series over the Dolphins (6-9) as they won both games by two runs.

South Shore Tech 2, Cape Tech 1: The Crusaders (7-7) came up just short as they lost on a walkoff on the road Mason Tomlinson pitched a complete game and gave up four hits, and struck out four for Cape Tech. Tomlinson was 2-for-3, and Aidan Choukri 1 and Nolan Baker each added a hit.

St. John Paul II 26, Rising Tide 0: The Lions (10-4) have won seven of their last four games. On the mound, Logan Our (four Ks, four innings pitched) Max Ingraham (two Ks, two IP), Ryan Amerault (three Ks, one IP), and Drew Richards (three Ks, one IP) combined for the shutout and allowed. atoal of two hits for JPII.

Tyler Ross was 2-for-4 (five RBIs, one run scored), Brady Meyer went 3-for-5 (three runs, one RBI), and Brian Mancinelli (one home run, three RBIs, three runs) led the Lions offense, while Graham Murphy and Oscar Johnson each had their first varisty hit.

Sailing

Nantucket 3, S.t John Paul II 0: The Whalers picked up a win over the Lions.

Nauset 5, Bishop Stang 0: The Warriors sailed to a victory.
