HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Barnstable baseball throws combined no-hitter for 3rd straight win

The Barnstable (10-2) baseball team pitched a combined no-hitter to beat Martha's Vineyard (3-5) 14-0 on Saturday. Eric Stanley pitched three innings, allowed no runs, and struck out two, while Owen Walsh pitched two innings, allowed no runs, and struck out two for Barnstable. Owen Jones, Anthony DiGiacomo, and Josh Hunter each had three hits, while the Red Hawks combined for 15 hits and 14 RBIs.

Boys Tennis

Apponequet 3, Martha’s Vineyard 2: The Vineyarders (8-2) snapped a three match win streak with their second loss of the season.

Softball

Sturgis 14, Barnstable 11: Sturgis (5-5) has won two of their last three games as they beat the Red Hawks (0-10). Juliana Nordone (one single, one run), Sara Ormston (two runs, two singles, one walk), Kaylee Koch (two walks, one run), Madyn Field (three singles, two runs), Victoria Dos Santos (two runs, two walks), Jordyn Green (two singles, one run), and Alana Harty (two singles, two runs) led Barnstable.

Nantucket 22, Martha’s Vineyard 9: Lillian Wullschleger hit a home run in the bottom of the fifth inning for the Whalers (3-4) as they beat the Vineyarders (5-5).

Girls Lacrosse

Nantucket 14, Ashland 7: The Whalers (11-0) won their 11th straight game to remain unbeaten. Bailey Lower (six goals, nine draw controls), Emerson Pekarcik (four goals, two assists), and Cydney Mosscrop (four goals, one assist) led the offense, while Claire Misurelli finished with nine saves in goal.

Barnstable 17, Seekonk 7: The Red Hawks (5-3) have won three of their last four games. Emelie Jonsson scored six goals, while Alyssa McEneaney added four goals and two assists for Barnstable. Shelby Locascio (three goals), Giovanna Detoldeo (two goals, one assist), Claire Kayajan (one goal, two assists), Carly Steenstra (one goal), Chloe Egan (four assists), Victoria Dinn (one assist), Kayla Grady (one assist) all contributed on offense, while Morgan Mueller had four saves in goal.

South Shore Tech 9, Upper Cape 8: (OT): The Rams (9-3) led 8-5 at halftime, but came up just short in overtime of handing the Vikings their first loss of the season.

Boys Lacrosse

Bishop Stang 13, St. John Paul II 2: The Lions (6-5) broke a two-game win streak with a home loss.

Nantucket 7, King Phillip Reg. 6: The Whalers (8-1) have won six in a row.

Girls Track and Field

The Jim Hoar Freshman and Sophomore Invitational took place on Saturday as Barnstable, Dennis-Yarmouth, Nauset, and Sturgis West competed.

Barnstable

The 4x100m relay team of Makeena Dennis, Thompson, Caitlin Ward Prior and Chari Wright placed 10th, while Ward Prior had a season best jump of 30-40.50 in the triple jump (12th place).

Amalia Thompson recored a new personal record (28.05) in the 200m, while Hailey Rubin had a new personal record (84-02) in the discus throw for a fifth place finish.

Dennis-Yarmouth

Kerri Clark won the 400m with a p.r. time of 1:00.91.

Nauset

Violet Roche won the high jump (5-00.00), finished second in the triple jump with a season best jump of 34-07.25, and came in second place of the 400m with a season best time of 1:01.08.

Anika Valli finished in the top 10 (eighth) of the javelin throw (77-07), while Elizabeth "Liz" Sanders had a season best jump of 4-06.00 (16th) in the high jump.

Sturgis West

Tallulah Clifford recorded a new p.r. in the 400m (12th), while Claire Heller finished with a new p.r. in the two-mile (12:49.21, 16th).

Boys Track and Field

The Jim Hoar Freshman and Sophomore Invitational took place on Saturday as Barnstable, Dennis-Yarmouth, Nauset, and Sturgis West competed.

Dennis-Yarmouth

Ledor Auguste placed eighth with a new p.r. (38-10.25) in the shot put, while James Barnicle finished ninth in the 400m with a new p.r. (53.47).

Craig Bloem Jr. had a new p.r. in the 110m hurdles prelims (18.39, 14th), while Casey Fitzgerald finished with a p.r. (5:11.29, 37th) in the mile.

Jackson Rood, Davante Clarke, Jordan Le Grange, and Kayden Rose set a new season best time (48.46) in the 4x100m relay.

Nauset

Reed Dill placed fourth in the 400m hurdles (1:02.10, s.b.), and finished fifth in the long jump (18-11.25). Ethan Koufos had a p.r. of 10:53.52 (13th) in the two mile, while Evan Melano set a new p.r. in the 110m hurdles prelims (18.73, 17th).

Sturgis West

Noah Wilcox finished seventh in the 400m with a time of 1:04.65.
