High school football: ‘Energy’-fueled start sets tone for Sanger in a win over Dinuba
Dallas Cowboys rookie wide receiver Jalen Moreno-Cropper accomplished a lot when he played for Sanger High.
His brother, Marquis, hopes to do the same.
Marquis Cropper had a rushing touchdown and an interception and running back Conner Bohlken scored four times in The Bee’s 13th-ranked Apaches’ 41-7 victory over Dinuba at Tom Flores Stadium on Friday night.
“We came out with a lot of energy,” Cropper said. “We knew they were going to come out with some energy, too, but we had home field advantage. We executed at a high level. Still a lot to improve.”
Cropper said fulfilling his big brother’s shoes will be a task because “it’s a long road ahead of me.”
Bohlken found his way into the end zone any way he could.
He had a touchdown reception and scored three rushing touchdowns.
Sanger coach Matt Logue liked what he saw from his team, but felt the energy was missing in the second half.
“We had some good momentum defensively,” he said. “We got some turnovers and we got some short fields so that always helps. We got off to a hot start in the first half on both sides of the ball.
“We came out in the second half and it’s hard sometimes when you have a big lead and guys didn’t play with the same fire and we had some guys cramped in. I think we definitely can tighten those things up. We’re 1-0 and for me, that’s all that matters.”
