High school football: Central rolls by Memorial, plus how Bullard pulled out a late win

Central High had no problem against San Joaquin Memorial on Friday night.

The Bee’s sixth-ranked Grizzlies rolled to a 40-14 victory over the 13th-ranked Panthers in a high school football game in Fresno.

Central opened with a 13-0 lead on a touchdown run by Brandon Smith and Braylen Hall’s touchdown reception from Earl Riley.

Riley threw four touchdown passes in all.

Grizzlies wide receiver Noey Felix caught a pair of TDs. Hall finished the game with six receptions for 158 yards.

Central returns home Sept. 1 to face Turlock, while the Panthers travel to play Capital Christian-Sacramento.

Clutch TD by Bullard in late win over Tulare Western

A touchdown and extra point held up for Bullard in a 28-27 victory over Tulare Western.

Dominick Gonzalez scored on a 42-yard run that tied the score with 1:48 remaining.

Preston Clarke’s successful extra point was enough as the Knights’ defense held on.

Gonzalez had a big game for Bullard, finishing with 23 carries for 148 yards and two scores and also had two interceptions.

Bullard running back Nick Stubblefield rushed for two touchdowns.

Tough loss for Buchanan

In a back-and-forth game in the fourth quarter, the No. 7 Bears took the lead on a Dallas Niznak 20-yard touchdown reception from Logan Sanchez for a 21-20 edge on Escalon.

The Bears attempted a two-point conversion and failed.

It turns out the failed conversion cost the Bears a chance to go into overtime.

The Cougars won the game, 23-21, on a 32-yard field goal by Talan Reider.

Clovis North battle tested

Second-ranked Clovis North had a tough time against No. 25 Redwood.

Jackson Cinfel and Andrew Chavez each scored rushing touchdowns in the second half to lead the Broncos to a 21-6 victory.

The Rangers had trimmed Clovis North’s lead to 7-6 after a field goal.

Clovis North extended the margin to 13-6 after Cinfel’s 62-yard touchdown.

Chavez capped the scoring in the fourth quarter on a 4-yard run.

Another five-TD game for Bryson Donelson

Running back Bryson Donelson did it again Friday when he scored five touchdowns in No. 17 Central Valley Christian’s 41-12 victory over No. 24 Edison.

Last week, Donelson ran for five scores in a season-opening win over Ripon Christian.

Against the Tigers, it was more of the same as he scored on runs in the first, second and third quarters.
