High school baseball report: Austin-area teams make final push for playoffs

With the high school baseball regular season about to enter its final stretch, here's the midweek report for the Austin area as teams make their final push for the playoffs.

Bowie 3, Westlake 1: Ryder Melsa scattered four hits over 5 1/3 innings, Cole Miller threw 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief and Josh Gonzales’ RBI single highlighted a three-run fifth inning for the Bulldogs, who moved closer to clinching a playoff spot out of District 26-6A.

Dripping Springs 7, Del Valle 3: Taylor Tracey hit a solo home run, Traigh Perry had an RBI triple and Tristan Ceichanowicz smacked a two-run double to lead the Tigers, who are one game behind Lake Travis in District 26-6A.

Johnson 3, Akins 0: Kason Hullum and Reed Dierschke combined for a shutout and Ethan McClain belted a solo home run as the Jaguars moved closer to a playoff spot out of District 26-6A. Hullum struck out six in five innings and Dierschke didn’t allow a runner in two innings. Grayson Thornton and Gus Koehn also had RBI hits for Johnson.

Lake Travis 11, Austin High 0: Ethan Schlotterback belted a three-run double, Joey Leoni hit a two-run homer, Karson Rader ripped a two-run triple and Maddox Medrano, Jager Rahn and Luke Rieder had RBI singles for the Cavs, who are in first place in District 26-6A.

Round Rock 14, Cedar Ridge 3: Hudson Ellis went 3-for-3 with a home run and five RBIs, Connor Digesualdo finished 3-for-3 with a double and four RBIs and Jake Staretz had three hits and drove in three runs to put the Dragons in first place in District 25-6A. Sam DeLong struck out six in four innings on the mound to earn the win.

Vista Ridge 7, Vandegrift 0: Andre Wood recorded another complete-game shutout, striking out seven this time, and went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs as the Rangers stayed within one game of first place in District 25-6A. Both Isaac Garcia and Alex Reyna finished with three hits and an RBI, while Kelton Klemke added two hits and drove in a run.

Westwood 16, Manor 1: Justice Moore went 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs, Grant Boren drove in three runs and Lane Wood, Jackson Gula and Austin Skierski all had two hits for the Warriors, who have won five straight games to jump back in the District 25-6A playoff race.

Stony Point 4, McNeil 2: Isiah Hill fanned six and allowed no earned runs in 6 2/3 innings of work and Matthew Pazak went 2-for-3 with two RBIs to pace the Tigers. Anthony Landaverde also had two hits.

Cedar Park 6, Leander 0: Brady Richardson threw a complete-game shutout with seven strikeouts and Logan Hedges went 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored to lead the Timberwolves, who are in a three-way tie for first place in District 25-5A.

Rouse 8, Glenn 2: Landon Miller blasted a three-run homer, Tyler Espinosa went 2-for-3 with two hits and two RBIs and Oscar Salazar had two hits and drove in a run to pace the Raiders. Gavin Silva earned the win with eight strikeouts and no earned runs in 4 1/3 innings.

Liberty Hill 2, Hays 1: Blaze Milam tossed a complete game with five strikeouts, Colby Demars hit a solo home run and courtesy runner Kolten McDaniel scored what turned out to be the winning run as the Panthers stayed in a tie atop District 25-5A. Carson Sharp and Giancarlo Giletei hit doubles for Liberty Hill.

Georgetown 3, East View 2 (10): Luke Holley’s two-run single in the top of the 10th broke a 1-1 tie and marked the key hit for the Eagles in their win. Ryley Leininger fanned nine in six innings on the mound for Georgetown, and both Holley and Hayden Grooms finished with two hits.

Hendrickson 4, Connally 2: Camden Malott threw a complete game with seven strikeouts and drove in two runs at the plate to lead the Hawks. Kevin Haslam tripled and Cole McCracken doubled in other notable offense for Hendrickson.

Elgin 4, Pflugerville 1: Jack Grames tossed a complete game, striking out six and allowing no earned runs and only two hits as the Wildcats moved within one game of clinching a playoff spot.

Crockett 10, Northeast 0: Hunter Dement threw a one-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts and helped himself at the plate with an RBI triple and Jason Sanchez, Jacob Reed, Byron Porter and Dominic Rios all had two hits for the Cougars.

LASA 5, Navarro 4: The Raptors put across three runs in the top of the seventh to spur their win. Jonah Cihock tossed 4 1/3 innings in relief to earn the win, striking out two and allowing no earned runs. Gavin Firestone, Connor Willie and Wyatt Saydah all had RBI hits.

McCallum 12, Travis 2: Nathan Sanchez went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, Charlie Cox drove in four runs, Max Satterwhite had a two-run single and Sam Stevens went 2-for-4 with an RBI to key the Knights’ win.
