Herschel Walker says he ‘unconditionally’ loves son who criticized him for denying abortion report

Georgia Republican Senate nominee Herschel Walker said on Wednesday that he will always love his son, who publicly rebuked his father on social media for denying a report that he paid for an abortion for his girlfriend in 2009 — a blatant contradiction of his staunch claims that there’s “no excuse” for a procedure he characterizes as “killing.”

“I don’t care about someone who has a bad past and takes accountability,” Christian Walker tweeted on Tuesday. “But how DARE YOU LIE and act as though you’re some ‘moral, Christian, upright man.’ You’ve lived a life of DESTROYING other peoples lives. How dare you.”

The pro-life retired football superstar said his son, who is a conservative gay influencer, is a “grown man doing his own thing” in an apparent attempt to discredit his attacks.

“I always love him unconditionally,” Herschel Walker said in an interview on Fox News. “He’s now a young man doing his own thing. But his father is always there for him.”

Walker went on to claim his son was doing the work of the “left” by lashing out at the pro-life candidate as a liar and hypocrite. “The damage he’s doing is letting people know that the left will do whatever they can to win this seat.”

The allegation against the former football pro is the latest in a series of stories about the football legend’s past that has rocked the first-time candidate’s campaign in one of the most competitive Senate races in the country. Earlier this year, Walker acknowledged reports that he had three children he had not previously talked about publicly.

An ardent Trump supporter, Walker, and Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock are engaged in a tight contest that is key to the balance of power in the U.S. Senate. The chamber is now divided 50-50, with Vice President Kamala Harris holding the tie-breaking vote to give Democrats control.

For now, Republicans in Washington are standing by Walker, with a spokesman for the Senate GOP’s campaign arm dismissing The Daily Beast story as “nonsense” rooted in desperation by Democrats.

“They and their media allies are doing what they always do — attack Republicans with innuendo and lies,” said Chris Hartline, a top aide at the National Republican Senatorial Committee.
