Here's where school-aged children can get lunch this summer in Columbia

A collaboration of Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services with Columbia Public Schools, Columbia Parks and Recreation and Powerhouse Community Development Corp. will bring meals to school-aged children throughout the summer.

The summer lunch program starts June 3 and runs through Aug. 2, except on June 19 for Juneteenth and July 4 for Independence Day.

Children and teens 18 and under can visit the various locations to grab a meal during the day. PHHS will distribute lunch noon to 1 p.m. from the rear parking lot of Armory Sports and Recreation Center, 701 E. Ash St. over the summer, while Powerhouse will host these distribution locations:

  • Lunch noon to 12:30 p.m., snack 1:30-1:45 p.m. at Columbia Housing Authority Stewart-Parker Apartments, 225 Unity Drive.

  • Lunch noon to 12:30 p.m., snack 1:30-1:45 p.m. at CHA Bear Creek Family Townhomes, 1109 Elleta Blvd.

  • Lunch 11:00-11:30 a.m., snack 12:30-12:45 p.m. at Columbia Square Townhome Apartments, 1715 W. Worley St.

  • Lunch 11:00-11:30 a.m., snack 1:30-1:45 p.m. at Progressive Missionary Baptist Church 702 Banks Ave.

  • Lunch noon to 12:30 p.m., snack 1:30-1:45 p.m. at 718 Demaret Drive.

  • Lunch 11-11:30 a.m., snack 1-1:15 p.m. at Indian Hills Park, 5009 Aztec Blvd.

Those planning to bring larger groups to the PHHS lunch distribution should contact the department's Women, Infants, Children Nutrition program at 573-874-7384 between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. the day before to ensure enough meals are available.

The summer lunch program is funded by the United States Department of Agriculture through an extension of the school free and reduced lunch program. An online registration form is available for those interested in volunteering at distribution sites. There still were four dates available seeking volunteers as of Wednesday morning.
