A romantic comedy written and directed by Nancy Meyers is always a delight for the heart and the eyes. (All that expensive-looking attire and those gorgeous kitchens!) But when Meyers set her fourth film, the 2006 movie The Holiday, at Christmastime, the extra oomph of cozy cheer made the movie impossible to resist.

Nearly two decades after its initial release, the rom-com has entered the holiday canon. The Holiday tells the story of two single women (Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz) who live on opposite sides of the world and are both unhappy with their romantic prospects heading into the holiday season. After they meet-cute on a house-swapping website, they decide on a whim to trade homes for the holidays. Winslet’s Iris heads to sunny L.A., while Diaz’s Amanda bunks at Iris’ English cottage. And wouldn’t you know it: They both wind up meeting a man (Jack Black for Iris, Jude Law for Amanda) who might just be Mr. Right.
