Here's What the Stars of Call the Midwife Look Like in Real Life
Between biking around Poplar, working late nights, and dealing with lots of crying babies (and mothers), the midwives of Nonnatus House don't often get the chance to dazzle with their hair and makeup, but for the real life actors who play them, walking the red carpet is just another day in the life. In preparation for the show's upcoming 13th season, here's a look at what the characters of Call the Midwife really look like.
Helen George as Trixie Franklin
Nonnatus House's longest serving nurse, Trixie, has always had the gift of glam—obviously something she shares with the actress who plays her. Recently, George has eschewed Trixie's signature blonde locks for a darker shade.
Jenny Agutter as Sister Julienne
Agutter may tone things down when she's playing the leader of Nonnatus House's midwives, but she gets to let her hair down (literally) in real life. Fans may recognize the BAFTA-winning actress for her roles in Logan's Run, The Railway Children, and the Marvel Avengers franchise, but she's also famous for her charity work—in fact, she even earned an OBE for it in 2012.
Laura Main as Shelagh Turner
Scottish actress Main is almost unrecognizable without Shelagh's signature specs.
Megan Cusack as Nancy Corrigan
Nancy's real life counterpart comes from a famed acting family, including her aunt Sinéad Cusack and uncle Jeremy Irons.
Renee Bailey as Joyce Highland
The newest of Poplar's midwives, Joyce is a no non-sense nurse, but her real life counterpart is not immune to a dose of glam.
Stephen McGann as Dr. Patrick Turner
McGann, who plays Shelagh's husband Dr. Turner (and also happens to be showrunner Heidi Thomas's real life spouse), is definitely taking some style cues from his on-screen persona.
Olly Rix as Matthew Aylward
Actor Olly Rix, who plays Trixie's well-to-do husband Matthew, looks dapper on and off screen.
Zephryn Taitte as Cyril Robinson
Cyril hails from the Caribbean, but real life actor Zephryn Taitte (Brothers with No Game) is actually British.
Judy Parfitt as Sister Monica Joan
Call the Midwife just wouldn't be the same without film and television veteran Parfitt's turn as the heart of Nonnatus House, Sister Monica Joan.
Linda Bassett as Phyllis Crane
Nurse Crane obviously gets some of her no-nonsense style courtesy of her real-life counterpart, Bassett, who's been a staple of British TV for years.
Cliff Parisi as Fred Buckle
All-around handyman Fred's wardrobe might be all function, but actor Parisi has the fashion down pat.
Annabelle Apsion as Violet Buckle
Shop owner Violet is never one to shy away from dramatic colors, but Apsion opts for a more neutral type of glamour. Fans might also known her from a very different turn as Monica Gallagher in the UK version of Shameless.
