If you tuned into Ahsoka to see Rosario Dawson and some other awesome ladies kicking ass with blasters and lightsabers and found yourself in the middle of a lot of character development and storylines that started way back in animated shows like Star Wars: Rebels and Clone Wars... you're in luck. I'll break down the Ahsoka season finale. Spoilers coming, uhh, obviously.

The finale episode, titled "The Jedi, the Witch, and the Warlord" in an homage to the Chronicles of Narnia (cuuuuuuute), tied up emotional arcs but left a lot of loose ends plot-wise.

Here's what you need to know about what happened in the Ahsoka finale.

The bad guys did what with Stormtroopers?

At the beginning of the episode, Sabine's boyfriend Ezra makes a new lightsaber from parts that were once used by his later master Kanan Jarrus. (For those like me who don't watch the animated series, Kanan is Hera's husband and was voiced by Freddie Prinze Jr. so woulda loved to see him.) Ahsoka, Sabine, and Ezra go to confront Thrawn and Morgan Elsbeth. But during the fight, Morgan and the Night Mothers use their space magic to resurrect the "Night Troopers." Zombies! Zombies in Star Wars!! Ahh!!

Did Sabine manage to use the Force?

She sure did! Ahsoka's padawan saved the day by finally getting a handle on her Jedi powers. Ahsoka promised to be there for Sabine. Their relationship is on the mend, finally.

Did Thrawn get away?

He sure did... ruh roh! Despite the best efforts of our heroes, the villain escaped and is off to rebuild the Empire somewhere. They're heading to Dathomir, where Morgan Elsbeth the Space Witch hails from and where Emilia Clarke's character Qi'ra went to meet Darth Maul at the end of Solo. Now Ahsoka takes place about 20ish years after Solo, but I would not say no to seeing either of those characters again in a Star Wars.

The good news is Ezra Bridger *also* got away. He managed to stow away on Thrawn's ship and escape home. He reunites with Hera and the New Republic, formerly known as the Rebel Alliance, at the end of the episode. Hopefully, he can feed Sabine's loth-cat Murley. That poor kitty has been alone for the whole show!

What about the space witch?

Morgan Elsbeth died. I'm not really gonna say RIP because she was a villain, but I am a little sad to see her go. I didn't watch Rebels or Clone Wars so I'm less familiar with the concept of witches in Star Wars. It's so fascinating!

Anyway, Ahsoka killed her and also got away with the magical "blade of Talzin" that the Great Mothers gave Morgan. (This show is very fantasy-coded, isn't it? Magical blades like King Arthur. Witches like... King Arthur.)

Where is Ahsoka at the end of the season?

She's still on Peridea, a planet in another galaxy which I'm sure has a name but I'm calling it "the galaxy far, far, far away" to be silly and goofy. Ahsoka, Sabine, Huyang the droid, girlypop with the bangs a.k.a. Shin Hati, and her Sith master Baylan Skoll are all stuck on Peridea for the time being.

Let's talk about the latter real quick; Shin Hati joins a new crew of locals on Peridea. And Baylan Skoll finds an interesting statue of the Mortis Gods. According to my research, these three Gods who once resided on Planet Mortis represent how the Force could and should be balanced between the light and dark side. Maybe he'll be going to see for himself on Mortis. However, we should note that actor Ray Stevenson sadly passed away after Ahsoka season 1 finished filming, so his character's fate is up in the air.

Ahsoka says they're "where they need to be" while Anakin Skywalker's Force Ghost smiles over them in the final shot of the season. I'm not sure what that means. Is he protecting her? Is he proud of her? Either way, I'm crying. It's been such a delight seeing Hayden Christensen explore this side of his complicated Star Wars character decades after the prequels on this show. While I'm as excited as any fan about what could happen next in this weird, magical corner of the Star Wars saga, that's my main takeaway.

Is this setting up Ahsoka season 2?

Nothing has been confirmed at the moment. But these characters, relationships, and even planets are too good to pass up. I imagine this won't be the last time we see these characters, whether it's in Ahsoka season 2 or the next season of The Mandalorian or a Star Wars movie. Remember those?
