Here's who was hired as the third paid assistant coach for Vanderbilt baseball

Vanderbilt baseball has promoted Tyler Shewmaker to the third paid assistant coaching position, coach Tim Corbin told The Tennessean on Thursday.

Shewmaker was previously the volunteer coach. The NCAA allowed Division I programs to have three paid assistant coaches instead of two beginning on July 1.

The 2024 season will be Shewmaker's third with the program overall. He was hired prior to the 2022 season from Campbell, where he was the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. Shewmaker specializes in working with catchers.

"That was an easy one for us," Corbin said. " ... He's good at what he does. And when you name a volunteer assistant, a full time assistant, you're empowering them too."

The Commodores' other assistant coaches are pitching coach Scott Brown and hitting coach Mike Baxter. During the offseason, Corbin also hired former player Ro Coleman as the Maggie Corbin Minority Baseball Apprentice after the former apprentice, Jabari Brown, left to be the third paid assistant at Missouri.
