Here's what happened with the effort to fire Shreveport U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson

U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson of Shreveport secured a massive vote of confidence late Wednesday when members voted overwhelmingly to rebuff fellow Republican Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene's effort to fire him.

The House voted 359-43 to table Greene's motion to oust Johnson. Only 11 Republicans and 32 Democrats voted to oust Johnson.

Wednesday's vote comes after weeks of threats from Greene, who said Johnson has become too friendly with Democrats and critized his support of a package of recent foreign aid bills to support Israel, Ukraine and other U.S. allies.

“Hopefully, this is the end of the personality politics and the frivolous character assassination that has defined the 118th Congress,” Johnson said afterward.

Greene's motion was greeted with boos.

After the motion was defeated, former President Donald Trump professed his love for Greene on his Truth social media account, but said now is not the time to oust the speaker and create more "chaos" and "disunity" in the House.

"Mike Johnson is a good man who is trying very hard," Trump said in his post.
