Here's When Each Episode of 'Squid Game: The Challenge' Hits Netflix
Unless you've been abducted by an unmarked white van, you probably know that Netflix just dropped a reality show based on Squid Game. But don't get it twisted—the new series, which is titled Squid Game: The Challenge, is a whole different animal. Its $4.56-million jackpot is the largest reality-show prize ever, and 456 contestants are fighting for a chance to take it home. Plus, the show is an absolute spectacle on every level. The players live in the giant Squid Game set for weeks—without contact with the outside world, mind you— while Netflix's cameras watch their every move.
The Challenge asks players to compete in giant-sized versions of childhood games, much like Squid Game itself. If you watched the original Squid Game, don't assume that you know all of the game show's twists, because it certainly has a few tricks up its sleeve. We wont spoil too much for you, but even within the dorm, contestants face quite a lot of psychological manipulation. Add meager portions of daily grub and ever-changing alliances, Squid Game: The Challenge has found the balance between guilty-pleasure television and heartfelt drama.
After knocking the competition down from 456 contestants to just under 70 hopeful players after the The Challenge's first five episodes, last week's three-episode drop made another significant cut. By the end of Episode Nine, we're left with just three remaining finalists. If this is any indication that The Challenge has enraptured the world, Netflix set a premiere time for the finale—so we can all watch the conclusion together. This week's big finale will drop on Wednesday December 6, at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. By the end of the episode, we'll finally have a winner.
