The nominations for The Herald-Mail Student of the Week are in, and you can now vote for the week's top student on our website.

Voting is open on our website until noon on Thursday, May 2.

We will announce the winner at heraldmailmedia.com on Friday, May 3, and in the print edition on Sunday, May 5.

Local school administrators nominated students who have shown outstanding academic and school achievement, and provided the details on their accomplishments below.

And the nominees for The Herald-Mail Student of the Week are ...

Mackenzie Kloos, Williamsport High School: Mackenzie, a senior, consistently demonstrates academic excellence, all while taking challenging classes. As a vital member of the varsity basketball team, Mackenzie displayed remarkable dedication, leadership and teamwork skills. Her involvement in extracurricular activities such as National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Science Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes highlights her commitment to academic excellence and deep commitment to service and community engagement.

Esdras Delgado, Global Vision Christian School Broadfording: Esdras, a senior, is a student aide in Spanish class, and has taken the lead in guiding students in classroom conversations. He is an honor roll student. Esdras is a resident assistant in the dormitory. He was a captain on the boys varsity soccer team. Esdras is well-liked by his peers. He is a great role model who is willing to serve with a joyful spirit.

Trevor Firey, Clear Spring High School: Trevor, a junior, is a hard-working student who is motivated to succeed in all that he puts his mind to. He has taken honors and AP courses throughout his high school career and is now enrolled in both AP and Hagerstown Community College dual enrollment classes.  Trevor is a three-sport athlete, participating in soccer, indoor track and outdoor track. He balances his academic and athletic success with his role as an officer in the school's FFA, for which he is chapter secretary. Trevor is highly respectful and is a friend to all.

Gianna Mata, Boyd J. Michael III Technical High School: Gianna, a junior, is inspired by the goodness in others. She studies in the Cisco Information Technology Academy and has earned, as part of her curriculum, the Information Technology specialist certification. Academically, she tries to take Advanced Placement classes and Hagerstown Community College (HCC) courses and enjoys AP World History and AP Calculus. She volunteers at her home school, North Hagerstown High, as the manager of the wrestling team and, also, the light and sound crew. She placed fourth in the state's SkillsUSA for digital cinema production. Gianna's goal is to major in psychology in college. She would like to go as far as to earn a PhD.

Andrea Chavez Enamorado, South Hagerstown High School: Andrea, a sophomore, is a leader. Andrea is bilingual and when new students enroll at South High, she gives them a tour of the school and introduces them to the staff and students. She makes all students feel comfortable and cared for. Andrea is an asset in the Spanish-speaking community.

Nathaniel "Nate" Rentzell, North Hagerstown High School: Nate, a sophomore, is a kind person with a great sense of humor. He tries his best and gives 100% every day academically. Nate is a model student. Nate has faced a lot of obstacles in his life and no matter what he's going through, he comes in every day with a smile on his face and tries his best to accomplish all his assignments. He is a great friend to his classmates. Nate has an awesome sense of humor and contagious laugh. He loves trains and can tell you almost anything about that subject. Nate exemplifies what it means to be a Hub.

Dylan Herbst, Smithsburg High School: Dylan, a freshman, is a great student who is highly motivated and engaged in class. He is a member of the Smithsburg Academic Leadership Team. Dylan is currently taking Advanced Placement U.S. History as a freshman. He has a 4.0 GPA. Dylan is a member of the football and basketball teams, and competes in outdoor track and field. Dylan recently ran the fastest freshmen 1600m run in school history at 4:52.82 and it looks like he is just scratching the surface of his potential!

Saumya Padha, Boonsboro High School: Saumya, a senior, epitomizes passion, diligence and commitment to excellence. Currently, she is president of La Sociedad Honoria Hispánica and a leader in language and culture studies. Saumya earned the State of Maryland’s Seal of Biliteracy as a sophomore and the Global Seal of Biliteracy as a senior in Spanish and English. With a global perspective, she dedicates her time to Meaningful Teens Tutoring, aiding children in Ukraine and India by tutoring them remotely in English and math. Saumya's leadership shines in various school activities, and she champions community service and diversity through her involvement in Youth United, Student Government, and Multicultural and Inclusion Club. In addition, Saumya is a talented tennis player. A skilled musician for 11 years, she plays the violin. Saumya shares her cultural heritage through music and dance. In every endeavor, she demonstrates a profound commitment to making a positive impact.
