Henhouse Prowlers to wrap up Five Nights on Campus series

The Ohio State University at Marion will close its 2023-24 Five Nights on Campus performing arts series season at 7:30 p.m. May 9 in Morrill Hall Auditorium with the furious finger picking and harmonies of the Henhouse Prowlers.

Founded nearly two decades ago with the desire to play original and powerful bluegrass, the quartet now finds itself at the intersection of performance, diplomacy and education.

The group’s performances give audiences a sense of how much they love what they do. On record − including their latest offering, 2023’s "Lead and Iron," released via Dark Shadow Recording − the band explores its collective life experiences through songwriting and intricate instrumentation. While bluegrass is the foundation of the Prowlers’ music, the band bends and squeezes the traditional form into a keenly developed sound all its own.

Bluegrass music will fill Morrill Hall on the Ohio State Marion campus when the Henhouse Prowlers take the stage May 9.

The Prowlers have been to more than 25 countries, working with the U.S. State Department and under its own nonprofit, Bluegrass Ambassadors, and incorporating music from Africa, Asia, the Middle East and more into an already robust repertoire of unique traditional American music.

Doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 general admission, $9 for seniors (60 and up), $4 for students, (grades K-12, and college), and $8 for campus faculty and staff. Tickets are general seating.
