You helped raise a record $34 million. See how much nonprofits got on Give Miami Day

People gave back big to the community on Give Miami Day this year, with the annual campaign raising more than $34 million, smashing the previous record for the most money raised for Miami-Dade nonprofits.

“This was the biggest, boldest day of giving in our community’s history,” said Rebecca Fishman Lipsey, president and CEO of The Miami Foundation. “We saw increases not only in dollars raised, but in the number of participants and donations given. What a proud and important accomplishment for Miami. So many partners made this day magical, and we can’t thank them enough.”

This year’s edition of Give Miami Day opened the online donation portal Nov. 13 for “early giving.” Thursday was the 24-hour marathon. The Miami Foundation says 46,619 donors raised $34,103,878 for more than 1,000 nonprofits.

The total money raised, through the philanthropic support of 96,473 donations, surpassed the event’s $30 million goal. The previous Give Miami Day record was $33.4 million raised in 2021.

“There are so many leaders stepping up every day to strengthen our community, and this week we showed them how much we respect their impact,” Lipsey said. “Because of your generosity, food banks will get restocked. Mentorship programs will reach more kids. Arts venues will offer incredible programming in the year ahead, and environment organizations will protect our coastline. We all benefit from the generosity.”

Many of the nonprofits that made the Top 10 list for organizations that raised the most money are focused on education and young people. And for the second straight year, Achieve Miami came out on top, raising $2.86 million from slightly more than 580 donors.

Achieve Miami is a nonprofit dedicated to closing opportunity gaps for students in Miami-Dade County. Achieve Miami’s founder Leslie Miller Saiontz, in a statement, said the money raised will help the organization continue to close gaps “within Miami’s educational ecosystem and creating a more sustainable and equitable community.”

Founded in 2015, Achieve Miami offers services to students in Miami-Dade County through programs in literacy, music, service, leadership, college and career-readiness, and social-emotional development. One of its Give Miami Day 2023 sponsors, banking and investment firm Morgan Stanley, plans to launch a new financial literacy program for high school scholars in 2024 to help teach students the fundamentals of personal finance.

“The outpouring of support we earned on Give Miami Day will ensure we have the resources we need to expand our impact in 2024 and beyond,” Saiontz said.

Education wasn’t the only area on people’s minds. Donors also gave to Jewish-based organizations, as well as nonprofits dedicated to social services, the arts, music and culture.

Wish Book, run by Miami Herald Charities, raised more than $13,600 and “will be an important initial investment to support our mission to help the less fortunate in our community,” said Roberta DiPietro, Wish Book coordinator for Miami Herald Charities.
