Heartstopper actor Kit Connor has signed on to lead the upcoming murder-mystery One of Us.

Deadline reports that Connor will shoot the movie later this month in Northern Ireland alongside co-stars including The Durrells' Callum Woodhouse, Game of Thrones' Charlotte Hope, Forrest Gump's Siobhan Fallon-Hogan and Line of Duty's Ian Beattie.

Stefan van de Graaff is writing and directing the movie, which is described as an allegorical tale where family members start to perish one by one at a funeral, with Connor's young character left to search for the person responsible.

Connor is known for his breakout performance as Nick Nelson in Netflix's aforementioned coming-of-age drama, which is returning for at least two more seasons.

The second season wrapped filming late last year, and a set picture from October showed Nick and Joe Locke's character Charlie sitting outside in Paris.

Outside of his career, Connor publicly came out as bisexual, saying he felt forced to address his sexuality following months of online speculation.

Reacting to the announcement, Olivia Colman, who plays Nick's mother Sarah on the show, said: "I am so proud of him, but I am not proud of how people bullied him.

"I think people should be allowed to have their own journey. But I'm incredibly proud of him as a young man to deal with all of that and be in the spotlight. It's unfair. But he's amazing. He's a very beautiful human being."

Heartstopper is streaming on Netflix. Seasons 2 and 3 have been confirmed.
