Kroc Center launches new family wellness program

SOUTH BEND — The Kroc Center is launching a new program called "Kroc Family Wellness: Elevate and Transform." This initiative aims to promote life skills that can significantly impact the quality of life by focusing on long-term healthy habits to benefit the body and mind rather than quick fixes. This is a tailored program that addresses the needs in households and is designed to empower St. Joseph County families to make positive lifestyle choices and prioritize their health in daily living. Key highlights of the program include: Mindset, Behavior and Health Living. The program will be rolled out citywide and families at all levels will have the opportunity to participate and benefit from its offerings. Events

VIRTUAL — The Lupus Foundation of America will be holding a virtual education event — “Lupus & You – Hair Loss, Skin Rashes, and Self-Image.” This free event will focus on hair loss, skin rashes and self-image with experts speaking on the topic and a special message from the event sponsor, AtraZeneca. Speakers include Dr. Victoria Werth, professor of dermatology and medicine, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine; and Sheera Lerman Zohar, chief of dermatology, Philadelphia Veterans Administration and assistant professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Johns Hopkins University of Medicine. The event will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 1. Register at lupus.org/lupusandyou.

SOUTH BEND — Changes are coming to Medicare in 2024, and the St. Joseph County Public Library is offering a free educational presentation, “Medicare 101.” This presentation is for anyone already on Medicare, anyone approaching Medicare age, any spouse and/or children of those on Medicare who help make these decisions, and anyone under 65 who is on disability and receiving Medicare benefits. Many questions and topics will be covered. Medicare annual enrollment period is Oct. 15 to Dec. 7, each year. The presentation will be held from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Western Branch, 611 Lombardy Drive, and again from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Nov. 2 at the Tutt Branch, 2223 Miami St.

Support Groups

ELKHART — An Epilepsy Support Group will meet the first Thursday of every month and is for individuals with epilepsy and families of those with epilepsy. The group meets from 7 to 8 p.m. at St. Thomas School, 1331 Main St., entrance off small parking lot. Vaccinations

ELKHART — Goshen Physicians will hold a drive-thru flu shot clinic from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 4 at Goshen Physicians/Parkway at 17, 851 Parkway Ave. All community members, age 10 and older, are eligible. The shot is free with most insurance plans. Cash, check and credit card will also be accepted. Self-pay is $40 for the low dose and $107 for the high dose. No prior registration is necessary. Bring a photo ID, insurance card and payment method. Parent/guardian signature is required for those under 18.
