Haven’t gotten your fill of snow? Weekend Snow Glow will feature fake snow, night sledding

Haven’t seen enough snow lately? An annual event put on by the Wichita Park & Recreation Department happens on Saturday night and features night sledding on man-made snow plus a fire pit, music and food trucks.

And that’s not the only fun thing happening in Wichita this weekend. Here’s a guide to some of your entertainment best bets for the weekend:

Snow Glow

6-9 p.m. Saturday, Mid-America All-Indian Center, 650 N. Seneca

Snow Glow is becoming an annual event in Wichita, and the Wichita Park & Recreation event — which includes sledding and music — returns for its 2024 installment on Saturday. The event offers sledding on snow made by Snow Bros Snowmakers plus music, an LED light show, food trucks and a fire pit. Tickets are $12 for ages 3 and older. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, the makeup date will be Feb. 3. People must pre-register for the event at www.wichita.gov/Calendar.aspx?EID=1659

Celebrate Kansas Day

Various Wichita venues, Saturday and Sunday

Kansas Day is on Monday, and a few Wichita venues will celebrate the state’s 163rd birthday with special events. Among them:

Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum, 204 S. Main, 2-3 p.m. Sunday, DeVore Auditorium: Every year, the historical museum hosts local musicians paying homage to the state through verse and song. This year’s lineup will feature the Diamond “W” Wranglers, Jenny Lou and the Buckaroos, and a cameo appearance by cowboy poet Scott Wiswell. Admission is free, though seating is limited to 60. The program also will be streamed on the museum’s Facebook page.

Great Plains Nature Center, 6232 E. 29th St. North, 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday: This venue’s Kansas Day Celebration will include free games, crafts, trivia and a naturalist program at 11 a.m. People will also get a preview of the events the center has planned for the year. Admission is free.

McCormick School Museum, 855 S. Martinson, 5-7 p.m. Saturday: The museum is putting on a Kansas Day Chili Feed that doubles as a fundraiser. Attendees can purchase chili with a variety of toppings plus homemade cornbread and peach cobbler.

Greater RV Show

10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday-Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Century II Expo Hall, 225 W. Douglas

If your goals include traveling the country in an RV, this weekend’s Greater Kansas RV Show at the Century II Expo Hall may be for you. The show, which continues Friday through Sunday, will allow visitors to tour RVs from companies like Jayco, KZ, Grand Design and more. It runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $9 for ages 14 and up and free for ages 13 and under at selectaseat.com.

Synchronized Ice Skating

Friday and Saturday, Intrust Bank Arena, 400 E. Waterman

Catch some live ice skating at U.S. Figure Skating’s 2024 Midwestern Synchronized Skating Section Championships, which happen Friday and Saturday at Intrust Bank Arena. This is Wichita’s third time hosting the event, and the competition will bring in more than 127 teams, 1,800 athletes and 250 coaches. Those who want to watch the competition, which will feature teams of eight to 20 skaters performing together as a team, can get single-day passes for $25 and all-session passes for $40 at selectaseat.com. Competition happens from 10:57 a.m. to 6:50 p.m. on Friday and from 1:59 p.m. to 10:01 p.m. on Saturday.

‘Ten Tiny Dances’ at WAM

6:30 p.m. Friday, Wichita Art Museum, 1400 W. Museum Blvd.

“Ten Tiny Dances” is the name of a performance that will be featured Friday at the Wichita Art Museum’s “WAM Nights” event. Presented by Harvester Arts, the performance will feature the work of 10 choreographers, each challenged to create a dance on a 4x4 stage. Each dance must be inspired by a work of art in the Wichita Art Museum collection. It starts at 6:30 p.m. at the museum, and admission is free.
