Hargray says service restored

Phone service was restored to Hargray customers around 5:30 p.m., according to the company’s Facebook page.

After around 7 hours without updates to the Facebook post, the company wrote service was brought back online and customers continuing to experience issues can now call the technical care team. Previously, customers were unable to contact the company’s call centers.

A cause for the outage, which affected all Hargray markets, has yet to be announced.

Service out Monday morning

Customers from all Hargray Communications markets, including Hilton Head and Bluffton, reported total phone service disruptions that began Monday morning, the company confirmed on Facebook.

According to the Facebook post, Hargray has been aware of the issues since around 10 a.m. Some customers wrote in the company’s Facebook comment section their phone service has been down since before 9 a.m., and customer service reports began to spike around that time, according to DownDetector.

The company primarily services the Lowcountry and Savannah areas, with its farthest inland presence in Pell City, Alabama. Customers in all of these areas have been unable to contact the company over the phone for updates, since the outages also affected Hargray’s call center.

911 services in Beaufort County haven’t gone down, sheriff’s office spokesperson Maj. Angela Viens said, but the non-emergency dispatch number is currently unreachable.

Updates will be provided through Facebook, Hargray wrote in its post, but no additional information has been shared as of 1 p.m.

The company has not posted additional information to its website.

This article will be updated as service is restored.
